Depression Forums - A Depression & Mental Health Community Support Group _ Effexor® (Venlafaxine) / Pristiq® (desvenlafaxine) _ How Long To "let Pristiq Work?"

Posted by: rachael_v Jun 19 2009, 08:53 PM

I have been taking 50 mg of Pristiq and 300 mg of Wellbutrin XL for a little over 2 weeks now. The Pristiq was added later so I am used to the Wellbutrin. For the first few days on Pristiq, I felt great, but now I am starting to feel kinda numb. Did anyone else have this experience? I know SSRIs and SNRIs can take a while to work so how long should I give Pristiq? I will be seeing my doctor in about 2 weeks.

Welcome to DF,

It ussually takes up to 8 weeks to work for most SSRI's and SNRI's. I have never tried this one, hopefully some one who has will pop in soon.

Just wanted to say it was about 7 weeks for me. I thought it was never going to work but it definitely has now. I don't have near the se's I had on Effexor but we are all different. We'll see as time goes by. I did need ativan in the beginning but am slowly lowering that now.

Sally, thanks for your input. Are you still taking Pristiq or did you stop?

I'm still taking it. I lost count of weeks now. I know it's over 2 months. Feeling good! smile.gif

I don't take Pristiq, but rather Zoloft.

I can honestly say it started to work pretty quickly. However, it took much, much longer for things to level out. I had horrible up's and down's for at least 2 months. Then, even over the past month I had almost a solid week of mild depression and anxiety.

Once the meds start working, it takes our bodies and thoughts a while to catch up. Once they do though, it's worth all the SE's, mood swings, and all the other baggage. Just hang in there and give it time. All the AD's can take a while to really get stable.
