QUOTE (Infidel @ Sep 3 2009, 07:02 AM) *
I've been at 60 mg/day for about 10 days now, still not seeing benefits. Still feeling tired, in spite of getting good sleep, will be trying Provigil soon.

I've been seeing a therapist for a bit, and she diagnosed me with dysthymia as well, and was very supportive of my GP prescribing Prozac. Unfortunately the Prozac is not doing what we hoped it would do (motivation, energy, anti depression).

I started a workout program a week ago, which has correlated with better sleep (although I still have to use sleep aids) and has probably improved my mood overall. Any benefits I attribute to that rather than the Prozac. I've been trying different meds for years now, getting really tired of it.

After I was on Prozac for about 2 weeks I was ready to quit taking it. Started at 20 mg and then was increased to 40mg once a day which I take now. I was extremely tired all the time, dry mouth, and nauseous. Then by the end of 3 weeks I started feeling great and by the 4th week I felt AMAZING! I am so glad I didn't quit it! It helped me get out of an extreme depression and in all honesty I have never felt this good in my entire life! I also don't suffer from any of the side effects I started out with. Prozac has a very long half life so it takes awhile to work so give it a little more time....I really hope it works for you!

I did a switch from Citalopram and Prozac kicked in after 2 weeks. I eventually went back to a different brand of Citalopram.

Just for interest's sake :)

This is my second go-round on Prozac (20 mg), and I've been on the brand since May (it's now September). Before that I was on a horrible generic for a few months that made me much much worse.

I'm not really sure it's working this time. I feel better than I did. But still feel a lot of underlying darkness and anxiety. I might switch, maybe to Zoloft. I don't want to increase the dose of Prozac because I suffered BAD side effects when titrating up from 10-20 mg. So I think this is the max dose I can handle.

--------------------
Self-diagnosis (planning to run this by the doc at our next visit): Unipolar reactive depression with melancholic features (3 severe episodes), some social anxiety and "pure O" OCD.

Born 1985
1985-2006: struggled with some mild-moderate anxiety/depression, but handled it O.K. until 2006.
2006-2007: Generic Prozac (Pliva, I think) 20 mg, worked great. Miracle drug.
early 2007-early 2009 nothing, felt fine
Feb. 2009-May 2009*: Generic Prozac (Mallinckrodt) 20 then 30 mg, horrible akathsia and anxiety. Made me MUCH worse.
May 2009-present: Brand Prozac 10 and then 20 mg, working okay but not the miracle of two years ago. 90% stable but not all the way.

*Have also learned that hormonal birth control does Bad Things to my brain.

I've been on it for a year...well Fluoxetine....and i think it took me like 4-6 weeks to notice anything. It really does help...i notice it takes the edge off my suicidal thoughts and jumpiness. I like it! nod.gif

However it has caused me to put on soe weight...but i don't mind...i'm tired of being a twig! rolleyes.gif biglaugh.gif

I started with 20mg of fluoxetine per day 48 days ago. It started to work within the first week.

Now I'm taking 40 (sometimes 50) mg/day. I think it's working pretty good. But I do need a sleeping pill to get me to sleep and keep me asleep. Great dreams though.
