Hello everyone, I am new here. I have been reading and decided to post. I am 26 years old and have been struggling with depression, social phobia, dysthymia, nausea for about 10-11 years now. I have tried numerous medications; Adderal, Zyprexa, Prozac, Paxil, Trazodone, Nortrypline, Provigil, Zoloft, Effexor, Celexa, Lexapro, Remeron, Wellbutrin, Strattera, Cymbalta, Ritalin, Synthroid, and probably more I have forgotten about.

I have had numerous physical tests, blood, stomach enodoscopy. Prior to being sent to a psycologist, then to a psychiatrist.

I have recently went off of paxil about 3 weeks ago, and now quitting provigil, need to be off them for 2 weeks to try parnate. I have been in pretty bad shape since going off of these. Very nauseated, extremely depressed, crying from nowhere. I am looking for advise for what to try now. I have not tried a MAOI before so that was why we wanted to try it. What do you think? Is there anything that helps with the nausea from mental disorder? I just want to sleep till its over. Any help would be appreciated

Dear Aron,
Seems like you've been through alot in the last few years with all the meds you've been on. I myself have not been on as many as you, but I hope I have some advice to help you. I found myself relying to much on on medication. I thought why is it that the cases of depression have climbed dramaticly in the last few decades. What did people do before all of these medications became available. I still don't know, but one thing that has helped is that I do my best to surround myself with people that think highly of me. If you can find a way to do this I recommend doing so. Take everything one day at a time, if not one hour at a time is a good first step. And realize that our emotions may not always represent what is reality. You are old enough to make your own decisions in life even though they maybe hard. But do realize that you are not alone. When I first visited this site I could not believe how many people felt like I do. You can and will get better.

It's very hard for me to do that because of my social issues. Thanks for the response though

Sometimes when you go off of meds, you feel worse before feeling better. That is how I felt anyways. I have struggled with Depression most of my life now. It is hard to cope, but you just do somehow. Hang in there, it will get better. If you are sick to your stomach, which I am a lot of times, I try to keep some crackers around to munch on. We are glad to have you here hun. Please keep us posted and let us know how you are doing. That is good you are going to a Doctor and trying different things. :)

Aron,

You are very welcome to come to the forum with your problem. If you are having a difficult time with your symptoms, try to post in Members Needing Extra Support Now. You don't have to have the required 5 post to start a topic there.

Sorry that the traditional SSRI'S haven't offered much relief. Your doc is doing the next step in offering other kinds of antidepressant meds and therapy. Usually, it's best to be on meds and have some therapy to start, so your therapist can see what kinds of issues you are dealing with and help you to either resolve these or find ways to cope with them.

Anxiety is two fold in that it has to do with thoughts triggering physical responses in our body. Your brain gets this kind of response into an 'automatic pilot' reaction, and you really can't begin to work on steps to desentize yourself until it's all calmed down with meds when you have an anxiety disorder. One can unlearn all the negative remarks that trigger anxiety, once it's calmed down.

I hope you continue to post on the forum. It has lots to offer all of us, and is a great place to spend time if your not able to social at this point in time.

I haven't been eating much more than plain saltine type crackers.

Thanks for the welcome JKM

Sorry that the anxiety has you feeling so poorly, Aron. Maybe if you treat your stomach like you had the flu, it would help. Broth, jello, juices, rice -- the light stuff. You may want to try something like a sports drink to maintain your electrolytes, too. Crackers won't sustain you.

Doc started me on Ativan to tie me over until I can start the parnate. I'll see what happens.

If you've never tried Ativan before, it's a benzodiazapine that will calm you down......(anti-anxiety).

I'm surprised he didn't put you on Xanax as Xanax also has an anti-depressive property, but my sister claims that Ativan makes her feel totally normal if she takes the right amount, so I guess for some Ativan does work wonders. Ativan always seemed to take the edge off for me, but not make me feel totally normal, so it definitely works better for my sister than for me.

I also sent you a PM!!

And DEFINITELY..........post away!!! Posting here is definitely a part of "peer to peer" therapy which is very good for you too!! Post, complain, whine, moan.....whatever.......that's what this forum's for!!!

Ativan was especially helpful for me as I could eat and drive and not be plagued by those racing thoughts that anxiety produces. I hope the same is true for you! console.gif

Let us know what your experience is!! flowers.gif

So far is has helped some, I have been able to eat a little better. My mental state is a little better too. I still do not feel very good yet though.

I saw my psychiatrist yesterday and we are going to start parnate friday. I also got some information on VNS from him so I can look at it.
