I haven't tried cymbalta. I was wondering if it causes weight gain in some people the way other ssris too. I am taking lexapro at the moment.

Unforunately, I started to gain weight on Cymbalta.  I have since added 100 mg of Wellbutrin a day, which has helped.  I still have to be very careful not to give in to those cravings.  Still, Cymbalta is not as bad as some other SSRI's I've tried!

I've been on Cymbalta for 6mo. and just came back to my normal weight.  I wonder if I'll gain.  I could use another 5lbs.  I lost and wes underweight when the depression started in 2003, so this is a good thing, so far.

I wish I knew why people had this probblem.  I read that some people are able to maintain weight if Burpar is added.  I never  heard of this....... You  might want to look at 'other anxiety meds'

I read, just this morning online at bipolar about.com, in a run down of AD's, that cymbalta was the least offending as far as weight gain goes. I certainly hope this is true! I have been working out at the gym the last 2 weeks and eating right and havnt lost 1 pound. ACK! Well, look at the bright side I guess, I havnt gained it either.  :)  It just its been alot of work and........*big whine*

JKM, Interesting, you know years ago I was on serzone and buspar and I didn't gain weight. I wonder if the the Buspar was the reason.
The odd thing is I eat less while on lexapro and exercise more as I have more energy and feel more motivated, but I still gain weight.

Congratulations sweetest thing! Has this happened just since you have been on cymbalta only? Have you been sick on it? Or have you been trying to lose the weight?

Hi all,

I noticed you mentioned about adding buspar to help with weight issues.  My pdoc added buspar to help me with the samne problem I got with weight when I started paxil.  Maybe it will work - I've lost 4 pounds - yeaa!!  Best wishes,

bebo

I've started to gain weight, and I'm not happy.  I'm always hungry.  I'm going to try a few tricks such as listing all I eat and keeping vegetable sticks with me to snack on.  I really like the Cymbalta, but weight gain is a big health problem for me. :(

I also take the dreaded Zyprexa and it is known for weight gain...up to 10-15% of your body weight.  I hope the Cymbalta will counteract the Z.

Keeping my fingers crossed here. I have been on cymbalta for 3 months now and have had no weight gain. As a matter of fact I have lost 4 pounds in the last 3 weeks (am working at it), something I havn't always been able to do on other AD's.   :D

Well, it finally started for me.  The weight gain after the initial start up effects of loosing weight.  Dr. told me to stop and try to go up to 300mg WB instead.  I've done the WB before but felt it fizzled out on me.  Maybe this time around it will help.  It just takes so long to start working and I'm depressed! tear2.gif

The doctor has now added 50 mg. of topomax to my cymbalta and wellbutrin to help with the appetite problem from the cymbalta.  No problems from the topomax and it does seem to dampen my cravings a bit, so we'll see.

Oh wow...I don't want to gain weight at all...one of my many depressive thoughts....guess I'll sit back and wait as I've only taken one pill thus far and am not really worried about eating...just keeping my eyes open!

I initially lost weight on Cymbalta (maybe because I had stomach discomfort from it as a start-up SE), but now I'm gaining, even though I'm eating less and exercising. It's frustrating, but since it helps the depression I'm sticking with it.

That's reassuring, but I gained the ten pounds I lost when the depression hit, plus just went up another pants size.

It's not all bad though. I was underweight to start with.

I notice that I really crave meat, ice cream and things like cake and cookies. Sugar isn't a great thing to live on.

Anyone else? It's really bad. I could put down a bag of peanut M&M's like I'm in a contest to see who can finish first. I just try to stay out of the candy isle at the store. Now Valentines' Day is coming, and here comes the excuse to buy good candy for the kids! nod.gif

At leat my appetite came back! coophaha.gif It was really poor on other meds. With the side effects of stomach upset, I'm surprised.
