I've been on 20mg of prozac for 4 months and it's not been working for my anxiety at all, in fact i'm a complete wreck, so my doctor has moved me up to 40mg. Has anyone noticed a difference when going up in dosage. I feel like i'm in hell at the moment and i really want the relief to feel better.

I was on 10mg for over a year, and when I started experiencing some panic (probably related to my new job that I'm not crazy about), I self-upped my dose to 30mg for about 10 days.  Then I saw my doctor and she said I only needed to be on 20mg.  I've been on 20mg for the last 4 days.

I never had any side effects before, but now I'm experiencing dizziness, light headedness, nausea, loss of appetite, etc.  My doctor said she didn't know for sure if this was being caused the the Prozac, but thought that the sudden increase in dose might have been responsible.....so I share your concern.  From what others have said on this forum, it sounds like these things will go away within a few weeks....I hope so. And I hope whatever you're experiencing will go away soon too....hang in there!

Hey there,

When I moved from 20mg to 40mg I didn't experience any change but when I moved from 40mg to 60mg I certainly felt better. It's all about finding the right dose for the individial. 40mg might work for you.

Hope you feel better.

Hullo , Ive been on 20mg Citopram for 10 weeks now . First 6 weeks was hell panic attacks , swets , palputations , vivid dreams , lack of esteem and confidence , lack of sleep or knocked out and slept to much . Might be worth a switch to this if Prozac which has a bad reputattion dosent work . After 6 weeks citoporam seems ok .

I think with all these anti depressants there is a 6 weeks bedding in period .

Dont take what i say though , im just a punter, a user of the drug .I have no qaulifications in this field .

Hi all,

I am currently on 40mg of prozac along with a few other meds and I am still experiencing some bad days (mainly anxiety attacks). Is 60 mg an unusually high does? It bothers me to need such a high amount but I am willing to do whatever it takes to feel better. Is anyone else on this dosage? I read somewhere that some people take up to 80mg a day. I dont want to go there!

Best wishes,
starr

80 mg. is usually considered the maximum daily dosage. Everyone responds differently, and you may just need a higher dose than some others do.
Let us know how you're doing on it...
(You might want to browse through the Anxiety room, if you haven't already done so.)
Take care -

I have been on prozac for a few months now and we slowly had to increase the dosage from 20, to 40 and now i have been on 60 mgr for about three weeks. It took a while before started to feel a bit better, i still have good days and bed days. I also wonder about this side effect; since I have been using 60 mgr. my hands are shaking a lot more then when I was on a lower dosage. It isn't funny and people notice my trembling, does it stop after a while??

Hi sarah-

I'm not familiar with Prozac, but hopefully others taking Prozac will be along soon to comment.

I'd also call your doc or pharmacist and ask about it.

sarah-nicole,
Tremors is one of the possible side-effects of Prozac. Call your doctor and discuss it. S/he may want you to give it more time, or go back to a lower dose (you could always add on another med).
Keep us updated...

Hi Sarah-Nicole,

I did not have the tremor side effect when I went up to 60mg just a little anxiety. How are you
doing on this dosage? So far I am doing well and hope to continue! Best wishes,

Hey confusion,i was on prozac in the past it also did nothing for me even when my doc increased the dose to 40mg.
Give the prozac a chance to work with thr increased dose,it may or may not be the right med for you but you will know with time.

Prozac is a slow releasing 24 hour anti-depressant,but you may need something like citalopram which is a fast releasing anti-depresnat,12 hours.

Just see what happens with the prozac for now, hopefully you can feel an improvement in around a month, for now just hang in there and keep your chin up.
