Crash!

Posted by amazinggrace, Nov 6 2009, 07:21 AM

Car crash, yesterday afternoon. Hubby, pup and myself, hit at some speed. The right rear of our estate car. We were spun about 200 degrees and ended up facing the direction we'd been travelling from. Other car shot through a cross roads, didn't slow at all. Such a loud bang, awful noise. All behind us, didn't see anything coming, no time to prepare.
I saw hubby was still alive and then unbelted myself screaming "Stella!" I could see the other car, front caved in. Our tailgate was slightly open, from the force of the impact, I looked in but couldn't see my baby. I ripped it fully open, she wasn't in there. My baby wasn't in the car.

I ran in the road screaming "STELLA!!!"

Can't say I remember any traffic. I had to find pup. Some one pointed, "she ran up there" I was crying, still screaming, running. I saw her, some man in a van said "I saw a dog go that way, blood all over" I managed to say "crash, down there" then kept after her. She wouldn't come to me. Blood all over her face, running in a blind panic. Some people joined in trying to catch her, a man came with her lead (I found out today it had been swung out with her and was a fair way from the car)
She was getting tired, panting, I was gasping for air, asthma kicking in, I could hear sirens. She sat, I walked so slowly towards her, "stay, stay, stay baba, stay" Quickly checked her out, then on the lead "come on, Daddy's waiting, lets go see Dada" Walking a quick pace back down the street I'd ran up I saw an ambulance, starting to feel sore now, trying to run but the lack of air was making it difficult. More screaming, crying "M, M, what's happened?, where's M?" "Where is my husband???" Police all over the place. Hubby was in the ambulance, hyperventilating, shaking, crying. They had him wired up to monitors, he had an asthma attack. A passing paramedic had got to the car just after I'd ran after Stella, he'd got hubby's inhaler for him and helped him use it.
They had a quick look at Stella and we put her in the boot of a police car, she was in such a panic, with all the people and stuff, best she was out of the way and safe.
The ambulance men got hubby settled, a policeman came to breathalyse him, zero reading. Hubby didn't want to go to hospital, we got moved to the police car Stella was in. We saw them drag our car off the road. I rang Mother, said we'd had a 'bump' and could she meet us at our house to drive us to vets. Didn't want to tell her anything else, stop her worrying to much. Hubby rang the vets to say we were coming. Hubby went in to the house with the police to show his documents while we got Stel checked over. She has two cuts on her leg, one on her face, a graze on her chin, a broken tooth and a nasty graze under her front right leg. The vet gave her a pain ******* injection.

Had a very restless night, Stella between us on the bed. Head feels like its made of lead, so much effort to move my neck. We saw our GP this morning, whiplash and muscle tenderness where the seatbelts dug into us. Rest and painkillers, gentle movements, see how we are in a week, may need some physiotherapy.

So, I'm off work. So much for the can't be ill for 6 month. Couldn't possibly work, I can barely raise my arms. Thing was we'd been to visit my new shop, its 10 miles away and took 25 mins. I'm going to need something better than the Smart car to get there and back, 3 big hills to climb, will be awful in the winter.

Our estate car will most probably be written off, shame its a lovely, was a lovely car.

A millisecond earlier and we may not be here today.

Looking in the back of the car, not seeing my little girl, will haunt me for the rest of my life.
