I actually had a good day. Well, a good evening anyway. I managed to get one sale at work today. I was anxious and sick most of the time; pure nerves. This evening overshadows that completely:) I went to the Thorton Dial exhibit tonight. The other artist I live with offered. The show we're preparing for will be coming behind Dial's exhibit.
It was breathtaking and thought provoking. If you don't know who Thorton Dial is, please look him up. My favorite piece was called "Stange Fruit:Channel 42". It's the picture above. Basically the piece is about Dial's heartbreak after he was humilitated by the show "60 minutes" in 1992. He had interviewed with 60 minutes about his work and his upcoming show, but instead they mocked him and made him appear as an uneducated, untalented, unitellegent man. The piece is a self-portrait, a man crucified on a T.V. Antenna. I felt so inspired by that piece.
I also met Nellie Ashford tonight, another artist. She was so warm and friendly. She and other artists were giving a lecture on Dial's works. She's an amazing woman. I even got a hug from her. She may actually be at the upcoming show.
I'm more nervous about being in the museum now, expecially coming behind such strong and powerful work. I just don't want this thing to fail because of me.
