Dealing With Fear

Posted by Violet31 , 09 September 2012 · 210 views

Dealing With Fear I have been dealing with fear this weekend as I´m still living in uncertainty and that is not a good place. Thankfully I can manage most of the symptoms of fear with the CBT methods, relaxation and guided meditation. I´ve made action plans and in a few days I will go away for a few days to rest. I need to get some time off and be refreshed before jumping into all the stressful meetings the last week in September.

I need to write down that despite the fear, I will be OK. I need to deal with stuff that is unpleasant, but there is no choice. How long will this uncertainty last? Well, as long as it takes. It is the end result that counts and I look at myself as I hope to be in three years time, debt-free. It does not come on a silver platter. It needs to be fought for so naturally there is some growing pain.

I´ve been also using some of the old stuff I learned in twelve step meetings. I´m currently going through the first three steps and what many people call God, I call Higher Power. Nature is my temple. I am trying to let go of my fear and hope that what comes out of this experience will make me stronger and leave me with a better knowledge. There is a group in my area about to start a new twelve step program and I might join them this winter. It is not AA or DA, it´s just coping with the problems and challenges of life by using the steps.

We´ll see how it turns out.

I'm glad you have the resources to help yourself through this. I have not done CBT or anything like that, but it sounds like it's something that helps a lot of people.

I really admire your determination and drive - and I hope you enjoy some good rest days! You deserve them!

Violet, you will come through it all, and you will handle it! I have been thinking about starting to attend Overeater's Anon meeting, which is a 12 step program. I have not done it yet. It would be such a huge difficult step for me. I admire you for going to your 12 step group! Let us know how it goes!

Thanks, Shmooey and LL. :hugs:

I feel much better today. I´m looking forward to get away for a while. LL, I´ve been to all kinds of twelve steps meeting and although I use therapy and self help more, I think it´s good idea to check out OA if you feel that is for you.

I called the church where this twelve step group meets and the first three meetings are open, then they will be closed until Christmas. I am going to the first two after I return home, then I decide if I´ll join.

Enjoy your rest Violet, I'm glad you're making plans to work through the bad things as well as the good things. That shows real strength and character. And using resources always helps bolster your own strength. I realised that, and now take all the assistance I can get or find!

Take care.
