Tackling Finances

Posted by Violet31 , 01 July 2012 · 199 views

Tackling Finances I haven´t blogged for a long time, not since one of the banks tried to force me into bankruptsy. I went to the Citizen´s Advice Bureau and got a consultant and a lawyer to go over my finances. My debts are massives, but I can get out of them and they are manegeable by now. I decided to opt for one big loan payed in full in three yesrs.

I started to get a bad feeling ten days ago when  lawyer from Citizen´s Advice Bureau (CAB) called me to ask me if I would like sell the house and give it to the bank and become debt-free that way. I could remain in the house as a tenant but the bank would be the landlord. Not only that, they could seize my mother´s property plus a summer house I co-own with my brother and sisters. This Debt Management Plan with one consolidated loan has that risk, it´s in the fine print.

No way. NO WAY. Have these people no decency? I´m a single mom with my own business. This particular bank has done everything to bully me into submission ever since the crash of Iceland in 2008. This is one of the bank who made Britain and Holland sue us for robbing people of their life savings. We have a lawsuit hanging over the country because of them and they dare to continue this scam?

They tried to make my company go under, they hassled me endlessly... and for what? 17.000 Euros. It´s not millions. My house and car are worth much more and I can pay them this sum in five years, when I intend to become debt free. I cancelled the one loan consolidated debt plan. I´m getting a lawyer at the CAB to negotiate on my behalf and I signed for it.

I know a woman in parliament who is fighting the war against banks. Turns out that many people with debt problems have come to her because the bank has forced them into a similar mess and asking for their houses and appartments. I´ve already drafted a letter to her and I want her to use my case on parliament where she is trying to make new laws.

I´ve been honest, nice, willing to co-operate and payed them back massive sums of money. I have to change tactics and use strategic planning. I will use a trick used by politicians, Let the B***ards Deny It. I will use it on them. I will let them know that they are scamming me and trying to get my house and company, and then they will be on the defensive, trying to deny it. In my case, it is the truth, but now I´m fighting them. I´ve had enough once and for all, and I´m willing to fight hard for my hard-earned property.

Good for you Violet for fighting them. Banks are so d*** greedy, they make so much money off us in ridiculous fees and such and they still want more. And they don't care who gets hurt in the process. Good luck and I hope you win!

I love the photo!

Thanks, PurpleStorm. The photo is of the volcanic eruption from Eyjafjallajökull 2009.

I messaged the woman in parliament through Facebook and she will be going over this with me. :)

I thought about bringing a lawsuit against them, but I´m not sure. They already have so many lawsuits from foreign countries... and they don´t seem to care! They just change names and identification numbers.

I know how you feel regarding money worries Violet. I'm on a management plan myself. I'm certainly not at such a drastic position as you, but to have it over your head like a swinging pendulum is a real burden, especially if you have other things going on in your life (which as you're here, I'm guessing is a yes).

You get yourself armed up with whatever the CAB can give to you, and go get them!

I'm glad you are fighting, but I know it's stressful! However, sometimes you just have to put your foot down!

Rockbottom and LibraryLady, thanks for your support and comforting words. I really appreciate it.

Today I have zero energy, having dealt with 12-14 creditors to settle the beginning of the month, because my income is a bit low until August. I´ll feel better tomorrow after a good rest.

Rockbottom, I´m sorry you have this burden too. This is the cause of my depression and I have been fighting this battle since 2008. I didn´t know about finances and my debts scared me so much, I couldn´t function. I lost my life savings and my job at the same time, but I got my job back and have been paying back massive debts ever since.

The management plan is 3-5 years, and there is light at the end of the tunnel, because in five years I´ll be debt-free. I guess you will be as well. That is something worth fighting for.

I drafted a letter to the parliament, and armed with both parliament and the Citizen Advice Bureau, I´ll get them! :)
