Uggg The Heat

Posted by karlarenee , 01 July 2012 · 141 views

Uggg The Heat I'm sure a lot of the people in the US are saying the same thing. it shouldn't be 90 degrees at 7:15 in the evening. I went to the pool earlier today. For being someone who hates the heat, I spend a lot of time at the pool in the summer. The water was refreshing, but I'm sure by the end of the coming week it will be like bath water.

I'm a little self-conscious when I go to the pool. But I keep telling myself that no one is watching me, no one is talking about me. Everybody is there to cool off just like me. Nobody care what anybody else is doing. I like to get there when the pool opens at 11 because the bulk of the crowd doesn't show up until about noon. That gives me time to swim a few laps or maybe walk a couple laps in the shallow end. My orthopedic doctor always tells me that pool activities like that are the best exercise for my arthritic knee. So in summertime I take full advantage of it.

I'll be spending a lot of time at the pool this week. I've got a half-day tomorrow, off on Wednesday for Independence day and off on Friday for some dental work in the morning. It looks like the weather isn't going to change, so I should have some pretty hot days. I like having weeks like this especially after having to work this weekend. I only work 5am-10am but it still sometimes feels like a full day. Especially since working the weekend means 12 days in a row. So this week it'll be nice to have a broken up week. Especially since I work next weekend too. A coworker needed to switch, so I'm working these two in a row and she's taking my weekend at the end of July and will end up working 2 in a row also. We have a 4 week rotation for the weekends so that means after next weekend I won't have to work a weekend for almost 2 months. :)

Speaking of the above mentioned dental work, anybody want to place a bet on when the "going to the dentist" anxiety is going to kick in? I've always had horrible anxiety when it comes to the dentist, even for check-ups. I lost count how many times I've gotten sick due to my anxiety before an appointment. My new dental hygienist picked up on it right away at my first appointment with her. I didn't say a word to her, she could just tell. This Friday I'm getting a crown/cap (or whatever you want to call it) on a chipped tooth near the back of my mouth. My hygienist was standing with me when I made the appointment for this. She chuckled when I said the first appointment for this had to be first thing in the morning. She patted me on the shoulder and told me not to worry about it. I had one done before so I know what is coming. The tooth in question chipped a while back and since it didn't go below the gum-line and didn't bleed, my dentist at the time just filled it like a cavity. About 1/4 of the tooth is missing, and at my last check-up the dentist saw that there was a sizable cavity forming under the filling so it's time for the crown. The part I'm really dreading is the part when they make the mold with that plastic-like puddy. I have a horrible gag reflex so this part takes forever. My last one probably would have been about 15-20 minutes less because I couldn't keep this stuff in my mouth long enough.

But making the appointment for first thing in the morning gets it over with and having the first appointment means the dentist isn't running late yet.

I actually like that putty, it makes my teeth feel squeaky clean when they pull it off! I hate crowns though, and I hear you. I have three crowns plus a bridge, plus a molar missing in the back. I am far from a fan of the dentist too. I hope your appointment goes well! The right dentist can really make it a lot easier. My current one listens to me and doesn't put a bite block in my mouth. I can't stand them, as I have been abused, and they make me feel totally powerless and have flashbacks. Even if people don't have major anxiety, I'm sure none of us wants to be there! Makes me wonder why anyone chooses to be a dentist when you know that everyone you see that day doesn't want to see you...lol.

yeah, it was 104 here today with a heat index of 110. MISERABLE. We only went out to two stores, to Petsmart and the groceries and we were drained by the time we came back. Even A/C in the car doesn't help that much because the heat is so bad in there between the times you turn it on. I hate summer anyway. Give me spring or autumn.

YAY for being brave, and for taking care of yourself to ensure you get the first appointment. That's very good. You're also brave at the pool,. I haven't been to one in like 25 years. I can't get past the self conscious part.

I'm here for you if you need extra support for the dentist!

In total contrast, I'm sitting in my lounge in front of my pathetic heater with a blanket around me, not wanting to leave the room because the rest of the house is freezing. Our summers are hot like that too and I agree with Shmooey, why can't there only be two seasons, spring and autumn.

Good for you for going swimming despite your self-consciousness. Until a few years ago I would never wear a bathing suit in public but my son kept nagging me to go to the pool. People stare at me at the best of times because I'm so tall and thin so I get in the pool and out of the pool at the speed of light

I agree with the dental anxiety, same with doctors, I have to have appointments early so I don't spend the day panicking or freak out in the waiting room because they are running behind. You're lucky you've got a dentist who understands and I bet the anxiety has kicked in already. My mother always used to say to me "this time tomorrow it will all be over" can't remember if it helped much though. Good luck and take care.

I have a great fear of dentists. I remember when I first read Orwell's "1984" I knew that the torture they would use on me would be dentistry! Yikes! But, I am careful to take good care of my teeth, so I won't need to have stuff done to them. I've only had one crown so far.
