Hi,

I started on Zoloft about 2 weeks ago. I was on Remeron, which was wonderful for my mood and for sleep, but I kept gaining weight and couldn't tolerate that. I just upped from 25 mg to 50 mg two days ago. I feel horribly depressed, like there is no reason to live. My main question is--is it better to take it at night or in the morning? I have been taking it at night, but wake up in the middle of the night or very early morning and have trouble getting back to sleep. I am having trouble "hanging in there" and waiting to feel better. Please reply if you have any advice. Thanks

Hi. I just started Zoloft last week, and my doctor has instructed me to take it in the morning.

I was discussing Zoloft with my mom when she came to visit me last week, and she is a nurse. She's seen some people that have had trouble taking SSRI's at night, so perhaps you should consult your doctor and see if it would be more beneficial for you to take it in the morning instead.

So far I don't seem to have any troubles with taking it in the morning, but I would still talk to your doctor about it.

Please take care.

I just started Zoloft 4 days ago. I am taking mine in the morning after breakfast and that schedule works for me. I'm actually sleeping better taking mine in the morning.

Feelingmad,

First off welcome I see you just registered. I've been on a combination of Zoloft and Lexapro. Zoloft 12 years. I can tell you from experience that to take it in the morning, I had trouble sleeping too taking it at night. Medication takes a time to work. I'm sorry to say there is no miracle pill that you are going to take that make you feel better instantly. I takes maybe a month or even less. Depends on the person. Hang in there and we are here to help.

I took my Zoloft in the AM and still had insomnia and really bad depression in the first week of taking it. The depression lifted, but the insomnia took a very, very long time to go away. I would wake early and often and wasn't able to get any good sleep for at least a month after taking the Zoloft. After a month, it seemed to go away and I was finally able to sleep through most of the night.

I'm at 3 months now and I sleep very well again. Not as deeply as I used to, but still enough to get a good rest. What I did was at first, was used the Xanax to help me sleep. I only did this for a short while to avoid dependency. I switched to Benedryl or Tylenol PM and that helped a bunch. I still have to take Benedryl most nights, but I'm taking less and less. I started by taking 3 tablets, and now I'm down to a single tablet. It just takes time for our bodies to adjust to AD's. In time the sleeping problems should wane.

If you're having troubles sleeping after going to the morning, and they aren't getting better, contact your doctor. My doctor is the one who suggested Benedryl to help me sleep as it's not habit forming and relatively safe to take on a nightly basis if needed.
