Hi everyone,
I'm having real trouble with irritability, aggressive behavior, and just plan ugly mood swings. I originally was suppose to start Zoloft with Risperdal but was afraid to take the mood stabilizer....I'm real sensitive to meds and had a bad experience with Lamictal so I went straight to zoloft and feel at my wits end. It seems as soon as I get ssri's in my system they create a borderline rage in me and my doc seems to think by adding Risperdal it may calm me down. My questions are these...Will Risperdal bring me down flat? Will it help with the z or create more problems? I have two kids and my little one is seeing the irritability most often. I can't stand noise or his presence sometimes....i need answers with these two drugs or I'm going to explode. Thankyou

I have not been on those two meds together.  The Risperdal is augmenting your Zoloft.  It should take the edge off any anger you have if it works correctly.  Perhaps, Zoloft is a bad AD for you if you have these adverse psychiatric symptoms.  I am BP 2 and take Celexa, another SSRI, but I still need to take meds with it.  There were some SSRI's that did not respond to any AP's or moodstabilizers.  You aren't going to know unless you try.

I take both.   :)  I just take the risperdal as needed though, which is not that often.  They work for me.   :)  What dose of R if I may ask?  My usual for agitation is .5-1mg; but I'be been know to take up to 4 / with doc orders.  All the 4 mgs did for me was make me sleep for two hours.  Otherwise the effect was no different.

Dispatch, I used to take Risperdal on a PRN basis, but all it did was make me slightly woosy.  It took 8 mgs to knock me out for just one hour.
