I'm not sure what to do. I've been taking 25mg of zoloft for three days now and the side effects seem to be getting worse. The first day I was just nauseous and now I am nauseous, dizzy and have the worst headache. I'm not sure if it will get better or if I am just going to be miserable if I continue to take it. Has anyone else had the same experience and did it get any better?

Thanks,
Kerry

I had pretty annoying s/e for the first couple weeks, but I don't believe I was nauseous, and I get headaches all the time anyway so I can't attribute it to the Zoloft. If it continues, call your doctor. I truly don't know about the nausea. For me, I was exhausted during the day and then jumpy and hyper at night for the first week. I ended up having other s/e farther down the road so I went off of it after about three months. IMO, stick it out for a few more days, if it continues, call your doctor.

GL,
Andrea

always try to take the pill with some food.
first 2 weeks i was disoriented but after a while thinks completly normalize and gets better.
last week i was having really bad nausea and acidity. doc prescribe me a med that protects the stomach walls, due to the overworking process of metabolize antidepressives, and works great... u should ask your doc about it, but probably is just a temporary reaction.
Good luck.

Hi Kerry, you are describing typical startup side effects that should subside as your body adapts to the med. Remember zoloft is an SSRI so it is activating to serotonin only. The largest amount of serotonin is found in the stomach so nausea is a common side effect for many.
Your headache should go away as well.
I'm not sure what your condition is....depression, anxiety.... sometimes a sedative is prescribed as well during start up to help deal with the additional anxiety you may experience. I use clonazepam - 0.5mg tid.

Zoloft is a very good ssri IMO, so hopefully all goes well. Hang in there, I'm sure you will see improvements.

And, this is my first post at this site!! smile.gif

Just checking in to see if you had posted any news about how you are doing on the Zoloft

Welcome to DF, bommarkm,

You are on the usual small start-up dose. Side-effects usually go away in a few weeks. If yours are intolerable and affecting your daily functioning, call your pdoc right away. This may not be the AD for you. We all react to meds differently. I'm on 150mg and it's working well.

Let us know how it's going.

bommarkm,

I'm sorry that you are having to deal with these startup side effects. I know how irritating they can be. Every other anti-depressant besides Zoloft made me constipated, so I understand your frustration. If they become too bothersome, make sure to tell your doc, but most SE do go away in time.

I agree with the others stick it out a little longer things should get better.
I have tried several other ADs and zoloft was by far one of the eaiser ones to get adjusted too and has been working very well . Part of it could be stress over starting a new med worring about the side effects.

Hope things get better for you soon

Hi Kerry,

The side effects when you start really suck but they do eventually get a bit better. I am on week 5 or so and am finally starting to benefit from Zoloft. Hang in there, it will be worth it in the end.

It has helped a little bit with my motivation but I am only a week and a half into an increased doseage (100mg). You have to have hope!! Best wishes to you on your recovery...

Thanks you Rod, i appreciate that!

From what i have read Zoloft can tend to make you go numb emotionally. People say i am boring because i seem so numb so maybe that effect of Zoloft would not maybe help alot. Welbutrin seems ok in the sense that it has less side effect (from what i have read) and that it won't make you too numb. I'm having difficulties making up my mind really. A drug that would raise my esteem (can not even maintain eye contact with girls) and make me less anxious would be a miracle i guess. I would aprreciate any feedback from experienced AD's users!

cheers

I'm on day 6 of 25 mg zoloft. Still have the stomach upset, like a nervous stomach, headache, and back ache. I'm still hanging in there. Will give more time.
