I would just like to hear anyone's thoughts on going up to the maximum dosage of Fluoxetine. I've been on 60mg for several months now, and I wondered if going up further still is likely to help my symptoms? Even though I've been on it for a long while, it hasn't done anything for me unfortunately, so I'm just thinking about upping the dosage before I give up on them, and I don't want to miss out on their helping me if I possibly can, especially if I'd only have to increase my dose by 20 or 30mg.
Any comments gratefully received! smile.gif Dizzy

Hi,

I am on the max dosage of 80mg and I am
doing really well. I am also on abilify which
really seems to help. It has always taken the
max dosage for me with any med I take but
it seems to work so I do it. You may need
to add a 2nd med to your mix to get the
best results.

hope you feel better soon,

Thanks Starr,
I've not looked into trying another med at the same time, but it seems like that's worth doing. Just wondering though, were you feeling o.k. on the 60mg or did that not have much of an effect for you? Was the 80mg dose the first time you felt any benefit?

Oops, I just noticed that you said you've always been on 80mg. Sorry about that!

If 60mg is not helping you, I doubt increasing the dose will help any. You would have to discuss that with your pdoc. Maybe a change to something else may help you more. Abilify has been suggested as a boost to whatever AD someone is taking. It was added to my combo of meds, but it increased my manic episodes to the point I almost had to go back in the psych hospital.

Hmm, it does seem like this needs quite a bit of consideration, doesn't it. My doctor recommended a tricyclic antidepressant a while ago; if I eventually discontinue the fluoxetine, I might give that a go. Thanks for your thoughts! Dizzy smile.gif

If you can tolerate the side effects of 80 mg Fluoxetine, you should give it a try. My experience is that upping the dose of Fluoxetine really does help.

Dizzy.

I suggest trying to up your dosage. i am on Prozac and i have been since i was 12 im 16 now and im on 7 prozac a day so im taking 140mg a day.
It defently did help gradually upping my dosage BUT always consult with your doctor before you deside to up your dosage- NEVER up your dosage without your doctors permission because its very dangerous. but i defently suggest upping the dosage before you try something different.

all the best

Thanks everyone, that's definitely food for thought. I think I'm just one of those people who need quite high doses for the antidepressants to work! sigh.gif unsure.gif smile.gif
