This isn't something anyone wants to talk about....but for those of us who NEED help with dopamine, is there anything else that can help us? I've used Wellbutrin off and on for 4 years. I've tried SSRI's and SNRI's and I've pretty much concluded that I need to hit serotonin AND dopamine. There's lots of ways to tickle a serotonin receptor, but it scares me that my sanity depends on Wellbutrin. If it poops out on me, I'm looking at ECT. Do any Wb users have a contingency plan if it up and quits?

DX: Major depression/general anxiety Rx's: Effexor, Lexapro, Lex/Wellbutrin, Wellbutrin, Buspar/Wellbutrin, Zoloft/Wellbutrin, Stablon, Cymbalta, Remeron. Oh, and Xanax and trazodone from time to time.

Wellbutrin isn't working that well, even after 2+ months, so I'm getting pretty scared as well (I don't want to go on Adderall, Ritalin or Dex). I'm gonna ask for one of the two (?) currently available 5-HT2c receptor antagonistic drugs available here upcoming monday. 5-HT2c (Serotonin receptor subtype) antagonism seems to have strong anxiolytic and anti-depressive effects. The 2 drugs with this kind of antagonism are Remeron (Mirtazapine) and Thymanax (Agomelatine).

My pshrink and I discussed the possibility of stimulants such as Ritalin, Parkinson's medications, tricyclics or MAOIs, plus two meds in the pipeline -- Valdoxan and another unnamed med which is supposed to hit all three neurotransmitters.
Just FYI.

Can Buspar take care of the increased anxiety from Wellbutrin? I will switch from Elavil to Remeron for sleep. What do you think about a Wellbutrin/Remeron/Buspar combo? I've great hopes for Wellbutrin, but I'm running out of options too. Which drug do you take for sleep? Best regards, X-ray

Best regards, X-ray Hi, X-Ray. A couple years ago I tried Wb and Buspar together. It seemed a good idea, but unfortunately Buspar couldn't put a dent in my anxiety. I quit Buspar and added Zoloft back again, as I apparently need both dopamine and serotonin receptors tickled. Zoloft is very good for anxiety, too. But seeing how you're on Elavil, I assume SSRI's don't do squat for you. Maybe Buspar is the ticket? -Deet
