Hi to all, I was on lexapro before changing to effexor xr and I took the weekend holidays a couple of times on it. I took my last dosage on a thurday and didn't take it again until sunday without any noticible problem. I would like to know if it's ok and safe with effexor? Your answer will be appreciated.

you mean to go without efexor for 3 days, well you will probably suffer a bit from withdrawal symptoms, such as brain zaps (electical zaps), possibly dizziness, possible nightmares. I know and its worse depending on what dose you are on, If you are on 225mg it will be worse than with just 75mg.

I'd recommend that you don't do it.

i don't think this would be a good idea, you want to attain and keep a steady state in your blood stream - going off for three days is going to mean your steady state goes up and down - i dunno, but it may just stop it working at all

Why do you want to do that? I know we dont like to take our meds, but to keep them working we need to take them regularly. I find if i miss a dose, i get dizzy and feel funny.

Take care and talk to your doctor about lowering it rather than skipping it.

Thanks 4 all your replies. My reason for asking is I noticed a drop of libido and delayed orgasmn and decrease of sensitivity on effexor too. I been on cymbalta and lexapro before and I Use to take weekend holiday or skip a day before meeting with my girl on it with no problems. Its similar as effexor but I guess effexor is stronger. I ask to c if anyone done it. I have to wait 2 month to c my doctor and he doesn't have a # where I could contact him. I think he works parttime at that clinic. I'm dying to find another clinic but it's so hard to find one out here in NYC. If it's not that it's full, it's that my insurance doesn't cover it.

I agree with Brenda. If I am more than a couple of hours late in taking my pills (150mg) of effexor, I get kinda dizzy and scatterbrained, and once I missed two pills in one week. Within a few days I suffered a debilitating depressive episode and made my first ever suicidal attempt. If I am diligent in taking them as prescribed, I feel good, they are effective for me. I think it is a good drug, but not one to be trifled with. Take it as prescribed.... if the side effects are too much for you, then see if you and your doc can find another one. Take the Process of treatment seriously, depression is potentially life threatening!
