So I had a horrible sinus headache and terrible pressure this morning. I took Aleve Cold and Sinus and about 20 minutes later my sinuses cleared all at once. It was really great until I started climbing the walls a few minutes later. I seriously feel like crap and I just looked it up and found out I'm not supposed to take pseudoephedrine with WB. Great. Anybody made this mistake? Should I call the Dr.? Will the cracked out feeling ever go away? This stinks.

Sorry I couldn't help but laugh how you described the feeling you got from taking Aleve with sudfed in it. I haven't taken it with Wellbutrin, but before I took Wellbutrin, I used to take it on a regular basis for sinus issues. One time I forgot I took it and ended up taking a double dose (a 12 hour dose) and realized I had because my heart started racing and I felt like I was bouncing off the walls. I thought I was going to have a heart attack or something.

I called the pharmacist and he assured me that I would be OK and unless I was having chest pain not to worry about it. The JAZZY feeling lasted about 3 hours then evened out.

Is it a 4 hour or 12 hour version of Aleve? Unless you have chest pain you should be OK -- maybe call the pharmacist just to be on the safe side. At the MOST you should mellow out within the time frame the pill is good for -- then you're probably going to be wiped out and want to sleep.

I am glad I saw your post though -- because I didn't realize you aren't supposed to take sudafed type product with Wellbutrin. My allergies have been horrible and I have been meaning to take sudafed -- guess I won't now unless I need an extra BURST of energy.

Yep! Do I know the feeling! Nasty writ Large!
And just for future reference; when on SSRIs, better stay clear of anything that has dextrometorphan in it as well.
Unless you actually enjoy verbally abusive blackouts and several days of feeling totally chewed up and then projectile-regurgitated, that is.
It so appears that it interferes with Cytochrome P450 enzyme in the liver and carries the risk of liver failure, so be vewwy, vewwy caweful!
Needless to say the the dextrostuff went right out the window and will firmly remain there until I'm off meds.
I guess that from now on I'll have to rely on my own recuperative capabilities to suffer and deal with the rhinoviral infestations. Oh Joy!
I found that steaming with Tiger-Balm brings some relief, but it may raise some eyebrows when doing that at work and for men it mght not be an issue, but when having anyform of facial makeup, the effects of steaming are although visually interesting, not quite what they are applied for.

Hey Lupercus --

What I take for Sinus issues now is MUCINEX -- it works wonders especially when you can't take other medications. It was originally used thinking it could help women get pregnant easier as it 'thins mucous secretions". Also Claritin works "OK" -- kind of better than nothing I guess.

I've never taken dextrometorphan so thanks for that bit of info -- I'll have to add it to my "DO NOT TAKE" list!

OK, I feel a little better now. It was the 12 hour, of course. Still feel lightheaded but getting tired. I've never taken meth, but I imagine that's kind of what it's like. Pretty awful if you ask me. Thanks for the Mucinex recommendation, I'll try it.

Glad to hear you are feeling better. If the Mucinex works for you, you might try getting it on eBay as you can get it a LOT cheaper if you buy a 3-6 months supply at a time -- it is non-prescription.

Yeah -- I've never tried any illegal drugs except something you put a plant in..............but I remember friends that used to do krank - and I remember when I had 2 of the sudafed my eyes just had that WILD look I remember theirs having.

Anywho..................sleep well -- just think Poppies.................... sleep_1.gif

A word of caution to you all, it is better to ask your pdoc or pharmacist BEFORE you take any over the counter cold preparation to avoid having really bad side effects. Even if sudafed worked for someone on Wellbutrin, doesn't mean it will be the same way for others. It's better to be safe than sorry.

Hope you are doing a lot better, atropos.

Hi,

I am having some side effects from bupropion and was hoping that some of you may have suggestions about what to do. I had been taking the generic form of Wellbutrin SR for almost a month. My doctor switched me over to Wellbutrin XL because it's more convenient (only have to take once a day), and today was my first day taking it. I had nausea and felt so dizzy that I had to leave work early. Do you know of anything I can take to alleviate nausea that won't interact with Wellbutrin? Or do you know of any natural, home-care type of things I can do? BTW, I never had nausea or dizziness while I was on Wellbutrin SR.

I also have another weird side effect. I got my period a few days ago, even though I'm on the birth control pill and had my "real" period only a week ago. I doubt this is a side effect of the birth control pill because I've never had irregular periods during that past two years that I've been on the pill. Has anyone had this weird menstrual side effect from Wellbutrin? My doctor didn't give me much advice except to wait it out and see what happens.

Thanks!

-Nancy

Are you taking Generic Wellbutrin XL (It's a big oblong pill made by Teva and called Budeprion) or name brand Wellbutrin XL.

If it's name brand Wellbutrin, I'd just go back to the SR version -- if it is TEVA -- I had the same side effects (nausea, headache, depression, anxiety) so I went back to Eon Generic Wellbutrin -- a LOT of people have problems with the generic XL.
