I've only had one myself, but they aren't uncommon.

No, not me. Only auditory thank God. My daughter has - an allergic reaction to prednisone. She was so angry that I couldn't see this man standing next to the tree... I called her doctor and they wanted me to take her to a childrens psych ward until the medication wore off. I didnt but it was pure hell while getting that out of her system. If she ever has to be on steriods again (she's asthmatic) they have said they will hospitilize her.

Warmest Wishes,

I've had some really frightening hallucinations which I won't describe, but mostly I hallucinate cats which is fine because I love cats. It just gets a bit confusing as I have two 'real' cats!

the worse one i have ever had was when i was in the shower, a spider with a one foot body(and legs at least 3 times that size) was coming down from the ceiling, i could see it fangs and its(several) eyes, i jumped out of the shower and ran out of the bathroom... yes naked... lol it was not funny in the heat of the moment, however it was quite funny once i had some time to think about it

Hi,

I am in Merlin's shoes I see cat's and mice, not normal mice but the old Tom and Jerry mice with the big round ears. I also have some pretty weird one's which might trigger someone so I won't post them I also hear things whisper my name sometimes or smell roses and I don't have roses in or around the house.

Yes, I have experienced visual hallucinations during manic episodes, but I have far more experience with auditory hallucinations.

I've had very similar ones to this from Low Blood Pressure, often when I am really tired.

I am not schizophrenic but i do have depression. There is actually a disorder called psychotic depression or something like that. i donno it may explain the hallucinations. Ive had all kinds of hallucinations, visual, auditory. They started when i was in my early teens. Used to be a lot worse before i was getting treatment. Once i was home by myself upstairs and i heard 2 men talking on the first floor. It was completely black downstairs and i called out but nobody was there. Ive also had atleast two times where it felt like i was in an earth quake. The class room just started shaking. I asked my freinds if they felt it too and they just looked at me strange. Sometimes i will hear, very faintly, a voice on the wind. calling out a greeting, or my name. Once when i was much younger i was actually in the middle of a soccer game and someone started poking me. Was a very odd experience. On yr 10 camp i was standing outside my tent and i looked to my left and i say myself crouching behind one of the buildings. It was very very strange to see myself. Its gone away now. But sometimes i will start answering questions that none of my freinds asked or hearing things that aren't there. I do worry though. I do worry that there is no hope for me. They biologically i am disfunctional and the lexapro im on is the only thing standing between me and oblivion. What do you guys think?

I'm not sure if halos and auras are considered hallucinations, but if they are, then count me in. When I get totally manic I have all sorts of visual "enhancements", but never saw something that wasn't there. However, I have odd reactions to a number of drugs, maybe related to the brain wiring that leads to my bipolarism, including quite vivid visual hallucinations. Novocaine, for instance, and some other anesthetics. I refuse to let my doctors prescribe anything with hydrocodone. I always figured that if you knew it was a hallucination, then everything was OK, the problem begins when you don't know you're seeing things. And hydrocodone makes me really wonky: I don't mind the foot-tall chipmunks dancing on the bed, because I know they're not real, but I had a conversation about them with my wife and she wasn't even in the house at the time. That's scary. Still, I say that if you know it's not real, don't be afraid, just sit back and enjoy the show (in my case, the laser lightshow).

I think there must be a predisposition in the bipolar mind which gets a bit out of hand during manic episodes. Everyone can imagine and daydream. An artist can portray those images, and many artists say they can see the images before they begin to create. The bipolar mind can see the images better than anyone else.

The closest thing I get to visual hallucinations is seeing movement that is not there out of my peripheral vision. I will try and catch things that are not there sometimes that I think are falling. Sometimes I will see halos and spot as well. Also the vision in my right eye will sometimes be almost nonexistent. This only happens occasionally and is usually accompanied with a strong feeling of anxiety and mania. I will also sometimes ask people what they have said, and they will not have said anything. I just hear them speaking in garbled voices. Does anyone else share these occurences? If so, are there any suggestions for a remedy?

Hi and Welcome picodegatto

You may want to your pdoc about this, as there are anti physcotic meds than can be given to stop hallucinations and voices.

I just had a very vivid hallucination about a week ago. I happened to fall asleep in the living room ( because I wasn't sleeping well and watched some TV) and when it was nearly daylight and I could see the room around me, I saw a red parrot struggling to balance itself on the ledge of a bookshelf. The parrot was frantically flapping its wings (which I could also hear) to not fall and finally made its way to the top of the shelf and then settled down. I have no idea why my hallucination was in the form of a parrot. I suspect that the loads of stress I was under all week and the lack of sleep contributed to this. I had to talk myself out of seeing it - because I knew it wasn't really there. It just weirded me out!

I frequently hear music, though, and it also revolves around me trying to fall asleep. It is usually something classical, but occasionally it is rock and I try to see if I know the song. I never do. I think I make it up as it goes! Perhaps I am trying to make sense of the patterns I hear in my fan or noises in the night. I find it a curiosity more than a bother.
