On every questioner/ screening survey I have taken at my Psychologist I scored high on all for likely having Bipolarity, Granted i have yet to see my Pdoc but I am thinking its fairly likely that at least at first I will be on something other then an antidepressant at least at the start of treatment. However I have a few questions knowing that everyone has some forum of Bipolarity on this forum could possibly answer.

I get irritated very easily, generally when this happens I have slight parinoia and delusional thinking(cloudy thinking), I have never and most likely will not have a full blown manic episode, is all of this part of Bipolarity? or is it likely that I have something else going on here? or is it even possible that this is just plain old major depression?

We're not professionals and cannot give you a diagnosis. Only your pdoc is able to accurately diagnose BP and it does take a long mental health history as Bipolar contains facets of other MH illnesses. Are you finished with your testing? I've gone through a battery of psych tests in the past. They don't necessarily point to Bipolar but they do give a better discription of how you function, what your tendencies are concerning mental health and if you have deficits in other areas, like being able to remember and repeat back a complex series of numbers, spacial visual perceptions, etc.

You don't necessarily have to have a hypermanic episode to be Bipolar. Somepeople have one episode of hypomania and are basically depressed most of the time. I'm Bipolar I and if I'm only on AD's they increase the risk of hypermanic episodes. If you want more info on Bipolar, there are FAQs at the beginning of this room or you can do a Google search for Bipolar.

Let us know how your appointment with the pdoc goes.

It's impossible to say for definate as everyone is different and i'm not a phych, but are these cycles? if so you could be having what I call an irritable episode or mixed episode, where you cant sleep, feel irritable and anxious.

Check the Other Meds forum. There is a FAQ a FAQ aheet on Lithium or you can Google Lithium for more information. It's the first drug used for mental health and is tried and true. You will have to have blood tests until you reach the therapuetic level (0.5 to 1.0). When you reach therpuetic level, blood tests can be every 3-4 months. I took Litium for 14+ years and had no problems with it.

Don't worry, your thinking on this is pretty much the way everyone feels while going through this. Try to realize only the Pdoc can determine your DX and then RX accordingly. Irritatibility is common in many disorders incuding depression, not just BP. I can get highly irritated whether cycling or not. The difference is, when cycling (up OR down) I don't need a "trigger" to set me off. I'll pick fights for no ligitiment reason with just about anyone. Otherwise I could be fine and someone can set me off. When this happens I get over it pretty quickly, when cycling with high Irritatibility, it can last days and I am pretty much unbearable to be around. Sero-dum-dum time!
I once had a psychologist that had no doubt I was ADD. Like Sheepwoman said, there are many overlaping symptoms of other disorders which is why it takes a long time to be properly DXed by even a physciatrist.

Good luck!
