Hey, I've been prescribed Lexapro 10 mg and I intend to start it today. I've been reading about this drug for about a month now (my psychiatrist has told me he planned on getting me on this pill for a while), and perhaps the most consistent and common complaint is the extreme fatigue you get with this pill.

While I am only using this for anxiety (and not depression, really), I worry that this can affect my performance in school and social activities.

So those of you with experience. Does the whole tiredness thing only last for about a month and then subside or is it always hanging on you for as long as you take the medication?

Hi SomeRandomDude

Yes the tirdness goes away with the other side effcts. When they kick in fully you should feel full of energy and motivation. So give it at least 4 weeks to start getting the benefits and in the meantime get as active as you can.

Keeping fit and active helps the meds along.

Best Wishes

HI SRD,

I took citalopram which is different and the tiredness never went away for me. Lexapro is supposedly 'cleaner' though so hopefully you'll have more luck. Some people are prescribed something else in addition to their AD if this is the only real problem they find with the med.

Hi somerandomedude.

I am on Citalopram which is obviously different to Lexapro, but I experienced extreme tiredness when I first had my dosage increased to 40mg. It has kind of gone away a bit, but now I don't get any decent sleep! Obviously everyone is different but it will definitely be good for you to hear other people's experiences with it, jimbow's advice at maintaining an active lifestyle when on your meds will definitely help.

Take care x

Still a bit tired... in fact, very tired. Even while I'm on Adderall! I'm willing to give it one more month before I find something else not as sedating.

Was wondering if you are still tired. My 17 yr old daughter has been taking citalopram and concerta (adderall caused her to sink back into her depression) for 4 weeks now and is still tired. Making an AD switch would be extremely difficult now with it being her senior year so we are hoping she will eventually get her energy back.
