I was just thinking about how people go to therapists for depression and that's supposed to make you all better and it'll get you back to being "normal" or whatever, but I started thinking...what if you were never normal. I don't feel like I was completely normal before the depression. I see being normal as hanging out with friends, going to parties, and talking on the phone for hours. I never did that stuff and I never really cared too. Or rather sometimes I think I went from not caring to being afraid. I think I feel the depression was caused at least a little bit because of how I've always been. So in order to be happy, I guess I'd have to become an entirely different person, right?
I don't know. I'm confused. I don't know what would help me. I feel like I was born with a personality that has me screwed forever.

Hi girlinthecorner

Therapy won't change who you are.
Basically what therapy does is help you to understand who you are and to be comfortable with who you are.
It also teaches you coping skills and helps you find motivation.
Everyone is different and yes sometimes people want to be like other people, but being yourself can ultimately make you happier in the end.

HI girlinc,

I don't think going to therapists is really supposed to make you all better, it's just supposed to help you know yourself a bit better and to help you put into place some strategies for dealing with things. You have to do the changing, should any changing need to be done.
There is no such thing as 'normal'. It's fine not to like parties and stuff, we're all different. You just have to get to a stage where you're happ with who you are. You shouldn't be changing to fit into anyone else's idea of normal.

Try therapy, you might like it!! xx
