Hi guys, I am starting to taper off remeron (30mg) and am taking a remeron every other day. Is there any info on what I should know how to taper off of it? I want to know how long I should go for every other week... then after that what is next? Much help appreciated.

DSL,
You need to discuss this with your doctor. In my book, slower is better, but I don't recall the specifics for Remeron. Sorry. If I can find out any info, I'll pass it along to you.

I went off remoran, this summer. Just taper slowly, l didnt have any weird sideeffects from coming off it. The doctor should know and he will explain how to go off it, just in case.

DSL,
Just checking in to see how you're doing. Is the tapering going OK for you?

sorry it took so long to reply, my son was sick had quite the fever for a few days. Much better know though?
Anyway l was on 30mg, which l guess isnt really that much, but l just went down to 15mg for a month then quit the 15mg. I am taking Paxil 40mg as well, and l am still on that. The remoran was making me very tired in the morning, it helped when l really needed it, but as soon as l felt alot better l wanted to stop taking it. I didnt have any problems going off it, good luck to you if you do.

I didn't have any problems coming off remeron and so far as I know it is a fairly easy one to withdraw from. This forum seems kinda quiet .. how's everyone doing?

Hangin' in there, Jo - thanks for asking; how're you (and you, too, canacool?)?
But please, NEVER say it's quiet around here - that's the best way to quarantee all h*ll will break loose <LOL>

I also found discontinuing Remeron to be a fairly easy process.
How did it go for you, DSL?

(((((DSL)))))
Did you explain why you want to taper off the Remeron, and did they explain why they want you to remain on it? If it's not helping or the side-effects are bad, there are other medications you could consider.
Talk to us, OK?

I'm sorry - I know what that's like!
Any chance they'd let you try adding on a low dose of Wellbutrin? It might help control the weight gain.

QUOTE(DSL @ Jan. 19 2005,19:09)
I dont like the remeron I gained too much weight.

Me too. Remeron is godawful for causing weight gain. I gained weight like a gluttonous pig when I took it. I was curious why gained so much weight, so I looked it up. One reason is that Remeron is an antihistamine and antihistamines are assocated with both sedation and weight gain. If you're sedated you're not going to burn much energy, so it's easier to gain weight.
Another reason is that Remeron is an antagonist at one of the serotonin receptors (serotonin 3), and lack of stimulation at this receptor causes weight gain. Mice which have had their serotonin 3 receptor knocked out (removed by genetic manipulation) also eat like pigs and gain weight.

That represents my best attempt to understand why it causes weight gain, but I'm not sure it's right.

It's interesting that these very unpleasant, for most of us, side effects can be just the ticket for others--for example, indivuals who are underweight, don't eat enough, and can't sleep.

Sammy, are you off it? Did you lose the weight you gained? I am trying to taper off of it now, but I still feel depressed, more than I was when I wasnt on it. The weight has caused more depression for me. I use to be a mild skinny person, and now I am 50 pounds more heavier, but I grew about 4 inches. However I want to go down to 170. Can you please tell me if you lost weight? Thank you. And also guys I dont reply alot because I dont know how to respond ???
