I have been on prozac for 3 months now and the jounrney has been a bumpy one. i wont to stop taking them the reason i was put on them was that i made an attemp on my liffe. so the doctor put me on them it was a real bad 3 weeks in the beging. But things got a little better but now i feel the same as i did 3 months ago.

I dont want to take drugs but the doctors says i have to. i m on the waiting list for counselling but it is going to take a year to see some one.

So i am going to go cold turkey has anyone done this before?

what will happen?

oh i dont know what to do.

beth,

Please don't discontinue your medication. It's possible that you need to have your dose adjusted in order to receive the benefits you want from the medication.

What dosage are you on? I found that my doasge was to high so I tapered down a bit. If your only taking 20 mg or so it may need to be increased. Talk to your doctor!!!!!

beth,
You haven't been on Prozac long enough. If you are taking a small dose, it may need to be increased. I highly recommend that you talk to your doctor. If you come off Prozac, You will fall back into your "hole". maybe Prozac is not the right AD, but only your doc can make the decision to change meds for you. I also understand that there are long waiting lists to get counseling in some areas of the UK, especially if you live in a small town where resources are limited. Sometimes you may be able to get in sooner if you are contemplating doing harm to yourself.

Even if you're going to quit, I don't think I'd do it cold-turkey. I'd taper off. Your local pharmacy should be able to tell you how to do that.

I think three months is plenty of time to know if this will work for you. If you're only on 10mg see if your doc will up it to 20. As for stopping cold turkey, I stopped Celexa cold turkey 5years ago. I went from 20mg to 80mg and my doc kept upping it and it WASN'T helping. She wouldn't listen to me, I just kept getting fatter and fatter and more miserable so I quit on my own. It wasn't a good experience...I became very angry but what I did was exercise a heck of a lot to help me and it worked.

Prozac has been a miracle drug for me. After my awful experience on Celexa, I've tried every natural way possible to help me with my depression and nothing seemed to help. My Gyn put me on 10 mg prozac 6 months ago, upped it to 20mg three months ago and I've been doing great! I'm afraid that someday it may stop working tear2.gif
