hi,

I'm moving into zoloft room now. It's been 1,5 months of trying to get a med working this time, and I'm pretty tired already, as well as still depressed :( I started with cymbalta, which gave me horrible side effects, I wasn't eating for a week, and eventually I was very weak from this med. Then pdoc put me to prozac, which had worked very well for me in the past. well, after 4,5 weeks on that it seems that it's not doing it's job this time, and I'm switching. upping prozac would not be a good idea, since it's very energizing med, and I already have a lot of trouble with sleeping.

I'm also using seroquel 75mg at night for sleeping, I have taken it 1,5 years already. It worked better in the beginning.

zoloft is supposed to be good for post-traumatic stress disorder, which I have been diagnosed with, and also with social phobia, which I have to some degree.

Anyway - few questions - how does zoloft influence eating and sleeping? I have trouble eating, I would love to get some appetite back. And I also have trouble sleeping.

And I really really hope this med will help me.

I will start today with half of a tablet of zoloft 50mg. or should I be careful and start with quarter? is it a drug with lots of side-effects?

oh, I guess it will be trial and error again and nobody can give me exact answers.. but I'm so tired of this all already.... :(

hello

i had the same experience with prozac,in that it worked well in the past but last time i took it it just made me emotionally numb and didnt help much.i have also tried effexor twice which made me worse.

i have been on zoloft for arund 4 months, and it worked brilliantly for me at first, however i have had alot of stress recently and after struggling for 6 weeks i saw the gp who has told me to up the dose to 100mg a day(i was on 50mg).so im hoping that will help.

i had the opposite problem with eating,i tend to over-eat when depressed, but i have found that my appetite is 'normal'(for me) on zoloft and i have managed to shed some of the many pounds i gained on effexor.i am opposite sleep-wise as well,i found prozac caused me to fall asleep during the day all the time and i always felt tired, but with zoloft my sleeping pattern is normal for me.

all in all,i have found this med to be the best ive tried so far(there are very few antidepressants i havent tried),and ive had no side effects whatsoever from it.

Zoloft had the least side effects for me also. Easiest antidepressant I've tried. I feel much better on Zoloft than any other AD.

My experience with Zoloft is also positive. I have been on the med for over 3 weeks now. The first 3 weeks I was on 25mg to get my body to adjust to the med since I am very med sensitive. Saturday, I got up to 50 mg. No side effects whatsoever. Although my anxiety symptom is not completely gone yet I can say Zoloft it the only AD I had very mild side effect in the beginning (a big of a upset stomach and not eating as much) but thats it. My sleep pattern didnt change, no weired things happening in my head or other uncomfortables side effects. I have no intention of getting off it.

I also tried quite a few AD and most dont work for me. I get horrible side effects. I think I might have to get my dosage to 75 mg in a month. I might be wrong since its only been 3 days i've been on 50 mg but since I still have some of my physical anxiety symptom and its the one thiing I want gone, I might have to go up but with Zoloft i dont feel I am taking anything. I feel 'normal'. As normal as I can be anyway lookaround.gif

I would start with 25 mg if I was you for a month or so and see how it goes.

thank you all, it's so good to hear positive stories!

I just took my first dose. I halved the tablet, and then took 3/4 of that half :) sort of inbetween 1/4 and 1/2 tablets :) so now it's wait and see...

Haven`t you gotten a notice from the doctor about the exact dose you should take?

I`m only asking as I`ve seen several here split their tablets.. Are the pdocs okay with that?

pdoc said take the half but if you are scared about the side effects you can take 1/4.

It's morning now and I don't feel anything unusual after taking the first dose yesterday evening. and I must say I slept good. that's really good, because I have had trouble with sleeping lately. so, so far it seems to be going ok.

I will take 0,5 pill today, and I'm still continuing with 1 capsule of prozac in the morning.

I've taken zoloft now for 4 days, and gone up to 50mg within those days. I feel really depressed now. is it possible that it magnifies symptoms in the beginning?? anxiety is really low, but depression really high. fortunately I can sleep and eat normally.

From what I've heard/experienced, its def. possible to make you more depressed at first. That's what its doing to me. Hang in there!

It's 6 days now. I had 2 days full of really great activities, camping in the nature, riding with horses, fire in august night full of stars. I had great company there, too, people I could be with just like I am, no pressure.. so I felt pretty ok there.. not so down as before that. I'm not good either, it was just tolerable. but tolerable is far better than hell...

anyway, I'm sleeping quite heavily on zoloft, so I'm cutting back on seroquel, which also helps to sleep.

7th day... I slept a lot again. but that's good, I think my body needs rest. I'm cleaning home and it's not that bad, I'm even a bit interested or enjoying that. not much, but tiny bit. but in general I feel lack of feelings. It feels like the bad stuff has been taken away, but nothing good has been put for replacement. like there's emptiness inside and I don't care about anything or anybody much. does anybody relate to this feeling early on in the treatment?

9th day. I must say, I'm doing a lot better already. I'm productive, and I don't have horrible feelings anymore. I had good evening yesterday, having dinner with a friend and chatting. I don't have depressive feelings or fear anymore. But still it feels a bit wrong, I still feel like I lack feelings at all. Not as bad, as some days ago, but still. And I still have a post-traumatic feeling like there's something missing in my life or I don't remember anything from my past. but nevertheless it's all much better than before. I hope I will get my feelings back, soon.

11th day. dead tired today. haven't slept well enough. I'm not feeling very depressed, but nevertheless bad.. fearful, like I've lost all people and it's scary. like I'm not exactly myself.

I hope I will sleep more in coming days and feel better then.

13th day. I was REALLY tired on Friday. I'm not sleeping heavily enough, so by the end of the week the tiredness cumulates. friday was hell. and then I slept 15 hours!! i woke up with headache from such a long sleeping. but I feel better today, because I've rested.

Emotionally I'm still having a lot of negative thoughts, but I noticed I have like more associations in my brain. Like I have a wider area in my brain I can walk in. like in depression it's just a small place where you walk over and over and over and you are not able to go wider. so I hope this means Z is starting to do its job....

it's been exactly 3 weeks on dose 50mg. I'm starting to get better. My mood is better. I have better sleep. I have memories that I'm starting to remember (good ones). I'm generally feeling better and stronger.
