I was on Zoloft for one week at 25mg and have been on Zoloft at 50mg for about four days and have noticed these side affects:

Upset stomach
Anxiety has increased
Blood pressure has increased with it (ringing in ears) (normally 135-140 but is going up to 150-155)

My blood pressure is kind of responding to my anxiety from what I can tell. I can make it go down resting in a chair. I have also had my blood pressure rise without zoloft when under stress/anxiety (same increase).

My doctor also put me on an anti-anxiety medication while I am transitioning with the Zoloft. The name excapes me I think it is 0.5 mg of Xanax or something like that.

After four days now my upset stomach is much better. But my anxiety is still kind of all over the place and that is driving my blood pressure I think.

My doctor is having me transition to 100mg of Zoloft after seven days on the 50mg.

Before when I took Zoloft for about 4 years I took 100mg at night and it worked well. Then about 5 months ago I slowly weaned myself off of it because I felt like I didn't need it anymore. But then my anxiety came back. It seems harder getting back on the zoloft from the first time I got on it.

I am just kind of scared and trying to be a brave soldier and work through this transition back onto Zoloft but it is not easy for me. I am currently taking it in the morning but I will try switching to night time.

My hope is the higher dosage - once I can get to it will subside my increased anxiety and blood pressure.

Has anyone else gone through these transitions when starting again or for the first time Zoloft?

Thanks,

Sean

Hi SV!
I hold all my stress and anxiety in my stomach, so I am sensitive. But Z hasn't been too bad for me.

I am pretty seasonal, so I taper down in the spring and taper up in the fall. Apart from some dizzyness, I have transitioned pretty smoothly. Maybe I'm just lucky.

I do take my pill with dinner and that seems to help. Maybe the food dilutes the impact on the stomach.

Otherwise, give the feedback to your doc. I know mine is ok with me updating him if I have side effects. (Went on Wellbutrin for a couple weeks, not a good reaction!) Talk to the doc about switching times etc. Even though we can give some "experience", we are not a replacement for a doc!

So don't be scared...these ARE serious meds and serious side effects. But you will work thru them. And if Z doesn't work out, there are others to try. Relax and let us know how it goes.

Taking it with food is a really good suggestion. It helps a lot if you get tummy problems taking any med.
It's not unusual to have a different experience with a med once you've come off it and started up on it again, so I wouldn't worry too much about that. I can't tell you exactly why that happens, it just does.

hello:

on my 2nd week of zoloft, i experience some hardcore acidity...i buy some med, dont remember the name, but what it does is help stomach walls while digest, its really cheap, i recommend it.. (i took it like 3 days).

about anxiety.. did u buy same brand that before?.. did u ask why change to morning?..maybe some placebo effect..this time u have high expectations for the med..

iv been on sertraline like 7 months (wow time is fast), and its really cool when u are 100% sure that the med its working instead of that uncertainty feeling when u dont know if its only some internal suggestion or real deal.
warning: i can say brand really matters, buy quality stuff even if your pockets are in trouble.

Here is an update.

I transitioned to 100 mg about 1 week and three days ago. I noticed that on the increase in dosage my anxiety got worse and has stayed pretty high during the week. After starting the higher dose my ears have been ringing. I also started to wake up at like 3 or 4 am at times with a panic attack. So I switched to taking Zoloft at night but that hasn't yet stopped my waking up at night. On Thursday I will have been on 100 mg for two weeks.

As of yet, I am seeing no benefit of the Zoloft with respect to anxiety or social anxiety. My anxiety is definitely now trigger happy and that kicks up my blood pressure which has always been good. I realize I have not been on 100 mg for even two weeks yet. I am taking .25 to .5 mg of Xanax to lessen the anxiety as I transition.

The thing is I never had this trouble when I first got on Zoloft. It was easy to take and I never had much trouble but I recall the transition was much longer. I think I was on 50 mg for like 3 weeks rather than one.

So I called my Doctor and gave her triage nurse my feedback and she will call me back tomorrow. I like and trust my Doctor. The Zoloft worked really really well for me for four years. I am just having a really really hard time starting it again.

Sean

It sounds like the dose was increased too quickly. I was on 25mg , for 6 wks, then 50, for 7 wks, now at 100 for 1 wk so far, and I have had, very few problems, just start up side effects, and some insomnia right now with the 100mg.
