Just wondering if anyone has had success or enjoyed Savella for their depression and anxiety symptoms? I've had mixed results with the other SNRIs (Effexor, Pristiq and Cymbalta) and was wondering if this one is any better with regards to side effects (it continues to be a popular antidepressant in other countries).

Hi

My own knowledge of Savella is that it used to treat a chronic pain disorder called fibromyalgia. As a selective serotonin and norepinephrine dual reuptake inhibitor, also known as SSNRI, Savella increases norepinephrine and serotonin avtivity in the brain

So it started to be used as an SNRI anit-depressant and I have no heard anything bad about it, only the usual SNRI side effects.

What does your Doctor think?

Hi scottybear,
There is a FAQ sheet above on Savella. this is a quote from the FAQ:

QUOTE
Savella is not used to treat depression

Savella is used in the treatment of fibromyalgia only.

While Savella is not yet FDA approved for depression (clinical trial are currently in progress). Forest Labs licensed the drug and it CAN be used off-label for depression by doctors in the U.S.. Savella (milnacipran HCl) has been used for depression outside the U.S. for many years now, and being that it is an SNRI has a good chance of working for people.
