Pretty recently I was prescribed Citalopram...I took 10mg for 5 days, and then increased it to 20mg as advised. When I was still on 10mg, I noticed little red dots on my left hand and fingers, which slowly appeared on my right hand too. I got pretty itchy and then the day before I was due for my next GP appointment, I glanced in the mirror and realised why my elbows had been so itchy - they were really red and blotchy. I had similar blotches on my arms and legs from itching so much. My hands also started to hurt too - it was kind of like the feeling you get after carrying plastic shopping bags for ages. The doctor took a look and decided I should stop taking Citalopram immediately (too early to have withdrawal effects apparently) in case it was something that wouldn't subside. He was hesitant to try another SSRI in case it was the same. He did mention my penicillin allergy when deciding what to try next but I don't know how relevant this is? He already knew about my allergy before he prescribed me Citalopram. As far as I know, that's the only medication I was allergic to.
I've started on Dosulepin now. 25mg, to be increased to 50g after a week.
I'm just wondering if anyone else has experienced a similar/or any skin reaction while taking this medication as my doctor seemed pretty surprised at it..?
Thanks.
