Has anyone tried stimulants for depression and if so what were your results. I've just tried ritalin for about a week and its biggest effect is anxiety which is something I can do without. Does adderall work better for energy and motivation without additional anxiety? Please respond with any advice. Thanks!

Hi clhf2009

Both of these meds are widely used in ADD/ADHD by increasing the amount of dopamine and norepinephrine in the brain, both are also regulated meds because of their addictive properties.

They are not normally given for depression ,

I would be careful taking these meds, especially the Adderall, just because of their addictive components. Many people who suffer from depression have the potential to develop a substance abuse problem. Adderall is an amphetamine, so in a sense it's prescription speed. I know it can work great for some people though, just be careful.
