I was just wondering if anyone else had been prescribed RISPERDAL (risperidone) for depression? I was taking it, but have stopped for lots of reasons.
I felt awful on it, it always made me really shaky.
My psychiatrist said it was actually an anti-psychotic drug, so i couldnt really understand why they were giving it to me- i have depression.
I was in a psychiatric until when they first started giving it to me and i was involuntary so i had no choice about if i wanted to take it or not. And they upped the dosage twice.
Im just wondering if anyone else had it and if it worked for them?
Thanks,
Lauren

Hi there -- I was hospitalized involuntary but did not experience the shaking you are referring to. I have been diagnosed with psychotic depression and am taking risperidone with remeron for this. I find that the drug makes me really sleepy and so have occasionally been cutting back for this reason. I was wondering if you have experienced any of these symptoms. Just wondering if anyone else has cut back on risperidone for this reason.

Thanks,
Ross

Hi Lauren,
perhaps they gave it to you to stabilize your moods. My son has been taking it since he was 7 because as well as depression, he was aggressive. I only agreed to the respiridone to help the aggression. He says he feels fine on it (no side affects and is now 13) but I dont think its helped his depression.
You mention that it gives u awful side effects but did it help your depression?

I was on Risperdal for several weeks, and later my hair started falling out. By then, I was on Prozac, so I will never know which caused it, but it was a nightmare. I shed just like a dog, until my scalp was visible. In the past six months it has started growing back, but will never be like it used to be. Ask your docs about both meds. Believe, a woman has a very difficult time losing her hair. Good luck.
