I seem to have an intense problem with concentration when I get depressed, it is hard to think clearly and to focus. I will also get a headache and I might start to blurt out words and things if the problem bothering me is completely out of my control. So besides medication what can I do to control my concentration problem?

Hi Jamie

This is very common with depression.
Perhaps you would like to have a look into some herbal tea's or vitamins, like vitamin B, fish oils, and ginseng, if you do not want to go on the med route.

I find it helps to break it up into 2 to 5 minute blocks, like if it's reading or watching videos- set a kitchen timer or beeping stopwatch. Then take a break for about 5 mins and do it again. It's not exactly efficient, but it's better than nothing. Takes a little time, though for it to start working. Short term, B12 helps, if you have trouble will interacting with other and on-the-job.

Hi Jamie,

It's not uncommon for people who suffer depression to have problems with concentration, it happens a lot while we go through episodes of depression. Having a few minute of time out would help, also if you have the time when you feel that you are going to blurt something out that you would rather not then maybe you could walk out of the room for a minute and then go back into the room and calmly try talking about what is bothering you, also maybe writing things down that are bothering you may help. As soon as you feel this coming on then try to use some of the methods that have been suggested and see what works for you best.

--------------------

Nurturing
As we plant the seeds for a flower bed, we must nurture those seeds by watering and weeding so that the flowers may become beautiful and strong. Without the nurturing they may whither away.
As we plant the seeds for our gardens to grow our foods, we must nurture those seeds with watering and weeding so that the garden may give plenty of the food we need. Without the nurturing we may go hungry.

As humans we have seeds planted within our hearts, souls and minds, those seeds must also be nurtured with tender love and care so that we may feel, see and think better. Like weeding the flowers and gardens we must also weed out the bad thoughts and feelings that we suffer with any type of illnesses. Give yourself some nurturing and let others support that nurturing in weeding out the bad seeds and replacing them with seeds of love and peace of mind, we all have right and the ability to see that the world is a beautiful sight just as the beauty within ourselves. By nurturing, we won't go hungry and whither away with our illnesses.

When this sort of thing happens to me, I try to slow down my pace. It's hard to do, as I get anxious, too, and I start trying to do things more quickly than I can and messing up as a result. But I find that if I can slow down and move at a more deliberate pace, then that helps.

Hi Jamie2
Concentration was and is difficult for me as well when depression hits me big time.
I usually go for a walk and take deep breaths to help circulate more energy through out my body. I also make a soymilk drink blended with fruits, dash of cayenne, lots of cinnamon and a teaspoon of spirulina- looks unappettizing but tastes great!
Don't know if this will help but a suggestion.
Take care and Peace out
