Just wondering if buzzing in the ears/tinnitus is a side effect of Prozac, I started on Lexapro about 5 weeks ago and switched to Fluoxitine 2 weeks ago as thought the Lexapro was causing the ear probs but they are still happening. Maybe its just a coincidence?? If this is a side effect does anyone know how long it will last???

Hi Flowers,

Is the tinnitus constant or do you just get it in little flashes? I occasionally get little flashes of it but have never thought about it being linked to meds. If it is constant I would speak to your doc asap.

I was on generic Zoloft 100 mg and I have had tinnitus since the end of December 2009 when I had a really bad sinus/ear infection. It comes and goes so it is not a constant thing but it still bothered me enough to go to several doctors. I went to an ENT and he didnt find anything; then I had an MRI of my inner workings of my ears/sinuses and that was fine. About a month ago I started taking generic Xanax .25 mg (very very low dose) cause I wasnt doing to good and I noticed that I was not having the tinnitus and if I do it is rarely and the ringing is very low; it's not anything at all like what I was having before. I did some research on the net and spoke to my doctor and he said yes that Xanax has been used for Tinnitus. So far it is working and it is great to not have an orchestra in my ears. LOL

Take care and have a wonderful day. 1cat.gif cat_jumps.gif

Hi,
The tinnitus is constant and seems to be getting worse, its a squeeling/buzzing on the right side, have had ears checked and tried antihistamines but its not going. This all started when i started on lexapro and changed to Prozac thinking that was the problem. Have only been on meds a total of about 5 weeks. I was on prozac a few years ago and didnt have this problem. I am off to the docotrs tomorrow, i might try pristiq, this is what he wanted me to try initially. I really need to get this sorted as we are going away in August travelling for a few months, so fingers crossed, third time lucky!!!!!!

Yeah 5 weeks isn't that long, especially as you've changed meds. Frustrating though. Good luck with the doctor tomorrow. I'd be interested to hear how you get on and if your doc can pinpoint the cause.
