Hi,

I have been taking brand name prozac and doing great on it
but it costs me $50/month whereas with my insurance the
generic is free. My pdoc says the generic is not as good as
the brand name but I was wondering if anyone had compared
doses between the two. Maybe a higher dose of the generic
would equal a lower dose brandname? I am probably
kidding myself but I would love to save some money since
I am on 4 different meds and it adds up. Anyone have any
thoughts or ideas?

Hi starr. I personally do not notice a difference between prozac and fluoxetine. I used to take 40 mg of prozac and have switched to the generic brand fluoxetine and I didn't notice any difference at all...I kept the dosage the same and everything. That being said, everybody's body is different - so it's difficult to say whether or not it would be the same for you as well. But in my opinion, they produce the same results.

Hi Starr like Shanban I have been taking fluoxetine (generic for Prozac) on and off for years. Also took Prozac. Currently I am at 15mg fluoxetine and I can honestly say that I have never noticed a difference between Prozac and fluoxetine. We are all different but like Shanban my opinion is they work the same. Hope it all works out for you whatever your choices. hugs.gif hope65
