I'm trying to figure out which is causing my weight gain, Abilify or Prozac. They are the latest drugs that I've started and I've gained 5 lbs. in less than a month. I have no appetite though. Does anyone else find that they are gaining weight even though they're not eating much ar at least not more than they were before the meds. I even cut my sugar intake in half which was working great until the Abilify and Prozac. I always figured the weight gain was because of an increase in caloric intake, but now I'm not sure. I realy haven't changed anything with my eating and on another subject, my cycle has gotten all screwed up since the Abilify. I think I should stop the Abilify rather than the Prozac. Any suggestions??

Thanks so much. I love this forum!!

I answered your weight gain issue in your Abilify topic in Other Meds. It's the same answer for your Prozac question. If the combo is working well for you, I can only suggest that it's good for you. You'd have to discuss any changes you want to make with your meds as we're not professionals and cannot give you that advice.

You may want to talk to your GYN regarding your cycles. If you're nearing menopause, that could be a cause. Your thyroid can also cause a variety of body malfunctions, weight gain is related to hypothyroidism. You might talk to your GP about a thyroid functioning blood panel.

SSRI meds tend to make people either lose their appetite initially and put on weight due to increased in appetite later. As Sheepwoman said already you would and should see your doctor for a check up on your other topics, he is best placed to find out the answers you need.
