Hi Everyone,
The majority of people on here seem to (eventually) do quite well on Mirt/Remeron, once the dosage is sorted - which is heartening.
The 1 thing most of you agree on is, that 15mg makes you way more sedated than higher doses.
Unfortunately, I'm stuck on 15mg(nearly 6 weeks now) and totally whacked out all the time, sleeping 12hrs a day, and laying on the sofa the rest of the time as my Dr refuses to take onboard "casual" reports on drug effects.
He say higher doses probably make some people feel more awake, because these people were probably depressed and slowed down anyway, and have just "hit" their correct dosage, the depression has lifted, and they suddenly feel more alive. And as i'm taking it for anxiety, and was never unmotivated or slowed by depression, the sedating effects appear worse for me, and that putting up my dose would be counter-productive and would make me even more sleepy, as clearly sleepiness is one of the side effects i suffer from with this drug!!!
Well, i'm not really one to ignore medical advice, but i trust you guys who have actually been through this experience more, and really want to try upping the dose to 22.5 or 35mg, but he refuses to give me more meds. so getting to my question.....
Has anyone out there come across a study or medical report online, that confirms sedation at lower doses, that you can post the link for, as i think this is the only way I will be able to bring my Dr round????
also, while we're here. Has anyone had success on only 15mg (for anxiety) , knocked the anxiety on the head AND come "out of the fog" eventually, and been able to lead a normal life on it i.e. drive and work etc.
Thanks for your help in advance, everyone.
good health to you all!
Hi London,
Just as the other post I'm not sure what to say here. I was put on remeron also for "anxiety and panic attacks," depression came later. I had a crash last week on 15mg was on for 6 weeks. I am now on 30mg . I can tell you that The sedation faded for me at week 3 and was much more tolerable. I wish I had some study or other info to give you. Both my gp and my Pdoc told we when I started on mirtz that I needed to give it an honest try and that meant 6-8 weeks for it to do it's thing and they also told me up front that we could go up and that they felt that side effects especially the sedation leveled out at the higher doses. They never made the distinction between depression or anxiety. I wish I had more for you. I believe I also would try talking to your doc again. I can't say I believe in his reasoning at all, let alone the fact that he doesn't seem to want to work with you on this. After all you are the patient and your concerns should be more than just noted! I wish you well......POPI
