Hi there. Im just curious if any of you out there have a similar problem being obsessed with fixing yourself. For me I obsess day in and day out about being more confident and finding ways of reducing my constant anxiety (most apparent in social situations). I have a difficult time forming relationships and trusting others because Im constantly defending myself against rejection and deal with an invasive surveying ego.

Let me know your thoughts about my post or if you can relate.

Thanks,

Tim

Hi Pieguy

It can be really difficult to live with these thoughts, but they can be good as well. The trick is to find a balance, as these thoughts can lead to some positive answers to help you. Also by finding that balance, you may be able to reach acceptance of yourself, which can be a hard thing to do, but entirely possible.

Is the best way to find balance accepting things as the way they are and to stop trying to change the nature of my mind. I just think that everything I do to make myself better only makes things worse because I am feeding the problem.

I have OCD and i tend to become obsessive about "fixing myself". For me this usually means endless thinking about my mental state and how i was in the past and why i do the things i do. My psychologist tells me i intellectualize too much and its bogging me down in life sometimes. I tend to agree. The way to fix this is accept that you have an obsession about fixing yourself and just live with it and refocus your mind onto your values at that point. Not sure if that makes sense but basically dont fight it, live with it, notice it and refocus.
