Hi Everyone

Just been prescribed Sertraline after 3 horrible weeks on Prozac. Doc prescribed 50mg for 3 days and increasing this to 100 mg thereafter. Also advised to take them at night.

Does this accord with everyone else?

Thanks

Longshanks

Some people take them at night so they'll sleep through the side effects - for me, though, Zoloft keeps me a little wired and I can't sleep, so I take mine in the morning and afternoon. I split my dose because if I take it all at once in the morning, it wears off by the afternoon. I still have trouble sleeping, so I also take Elavil, another AD, which helps my depresssion AND helps me sleep. But my whole family has problems with sleep, so you may not react the same way I do - so of course, monitor your symptoms and keep in touch with your doc!

Take care,
DB

I took Zoloft previously for 12 years -- I had to take it at night because it made me tired and yawn a lot if I took it during the day.

I just started taking it again a little over a week ago -- and my doctor suggested taking it in the morning. I am taking 50mg in the morning and it isn't making me tired this time around.

So just as it can be different from person to person -- it can even change how it works with the same person over time.

I also take Wellbutrin and I can take that at night with no problems -- so I'm sure I could still take Zoloft at night and still sleep fine -- but see no point of changing now as it's working well when I take it.

Anyway -- I imagine if you can't sleep after taking it, advise your doctor and see if you can take it in AM?

My pdoc and the PNP advised me to take Zoloft in the morning in order to fully benefit from its AD qualities. If I accidently take it at night, I will be awake and not be able to sleep. If your pdoc said to take it at night and you can't sleep or have broken sleep, let him/her know. All the ADs I have ever taken, with the exception of tricyclics, have been prescribed for morning dosage in order to prevent sleep disturbances.
