I am a week into this medication for anxiety and I am looking for some feedback of this medication if anyone else has taken it. I've noticed an increase in appetite (which is good), but now I have a difficult time staying motivated because I am so drowsy in the mornings now. I am rely on this medication to help me sleep at night, so I have stopped taking ambien very night (with the exception of 2 nights ago when my brain was so wired, that I knew I wasn't able to sleep without it.)

I also wanted to ask, how long has it taken for ANY anti-anxiety medication to start working for you? Where you notice the anxiety going down?

It is very sedating at that initial low dose. Therapeutic dosage is 30mg, and is much less sedating, more motivating and activating.
2 very good things about Mirtazapine-- the low dose makes you sleepy (which for many people is GOOD where others hate it), but the 30-45mg dosage actually regulates your sleep cycles, which is even better!
Secondly, it's a very fast-acting anti-depressant. Studies show it works within 2 weeks, while other ADs take 4-8 weeks. My non-doctor reasoning is that is because mirtazapine has a different mechanism of action-- it actually increases the amounts of serotonin and norepinephrine your body makes, it doesn't just block the break-down of the chemicals like other anti-depressants, and so for some people it works where other meds failed.

You are right about that. My doc presribed 7.5 mgs the first night....and I fell asleep rather quickly.

I currently take one pill (15 mgs) at night. I wonder if I will need to increase to 30 mg. I'll see my therapist on the 25th and mention this.

Hi,

I have been taking Mirtazapine for 4 months now, at first i was on 30MG and now 45MG. I haven't noticed it making me tired at all. I have recently added Flupentixol to the mix and now i am getting extremely tired.

Take care
Paul

I can't add anything better than what Amakgv has said. It does indeed stimulate the appetite. Sometimes they prescribe it to the elderly and frail so that they'll thrive better.

For anyone that cares. I wanted to provide an update on my time on this med. I've been on it for 4 weeks now, (15 mg nightly), and I''ve able to sleep better and without ambien for the last 10 days which is an achievement.

And there has been a decrease in my anxiety overall, but I still have times where I am tense, which is frustrating. So as of yesterday, I had my follow up appointment and I have been bumped up to 30 mg a night. Hopefully some of you here have continued to see improvement in your anxiety when you were bumped up to 30 mg.

I wanted to bring up my experience today. I felt good all day long. I woke up feeling good, then had a good day at work, but when I brought over a friend to watch a basketball game tonight, I started getting tense and nervous around the 2nd quarter. And I just don't understand why I started feeling this way. This is a good friend of mine, likes me for who I am, and I got nervous and tense anyway. And I've noticed that when I feel nervous, I start belching a lot. Like when one has heartburn, so I did a lot of that from the 2nd quarter on and I was on edge the rest of the night, even though I tried my best to not show that to my friend.

Thanks for reading.

I felt the same after my remeron was bumped up to 30 mg. My doctor had me split the remeron between getting up and before bed. Also he added lexpro. After one week still feels a little edgy. Guess I'll find out.
