I have read some posts about this med and I am afraid to start taking it. My doc gave me a prescription for some because of what he says is Occipital neuraligia. So I get spasms in my occipital area and it hurts. Does this med work? Has anyone had success with it? Thank you so kindly.

a similar drug (gabapentin) gave me back my life. Remember that side effects are rare, and people who have problems are more likely to post than those who take it and go on their merry way. It's been prescribed because the doctor thinks the possible benefits far outweigh possible side effects, and if they are a problem you can just stop taking it.

It's definately worth the try. I am also on Neurontin (Gabapentin) for nerve pain in my arms and hands and it works real well. If you don't like the way you feel you can always stop.

I talked to my psychiatrist and we are first going to stay on Celexa and try zyprexa at night to help calm me down and hopefully this combo will keep the head pains away. If it does nothelp I may try the lyrica.

I was prescribed Lyrica for fibromyalgia. One of the side effects is imbalance. Almost immediately after I started taking it my balance was greatly affected. I fell several times. The last time I fell I broke my right arm in 4 places. My doctor immediately had me stop the Lyrica, but the damage had already been done. I broke my arm on June 20th. It's now December and my arm has still not healed properly. I'm glad my husband has good health insurance because I've had LOTS of appointments with several specialists, as well as extended time in physical therapy. The last prognosis was that this is as good as my arm will ever get. I already suffer with daily chronic pain from fibromyalgia, disk degeneration, chronic migraines, etc., etc. Now I have one more thing to add to the list.

Everyone I've talked with online about Lyrica have all had problems with balance. The first positive experiences I've read about Lyrica are the ones in this thread. Obviously the drug works differently on different people. If you are a chronic pain sufferer, it would be worth trying. Lyrica did decrease my pain the short time I was able to take it. Since the side effects kick in almost immediately, it wouldn't take long for you to notice if you were in danger of hurting yourself.

I also tried Lyrica for nerve pain. It didn't help me at all and I couldn't drive. I would get lost, miss my turn, drive erratically. I am now taking Neurontin and have pain relief with no side effects so far. Everyone is different. These drugs are worth their weight in gold when it comes to nerve pain relief. Best of luck.

Ok thanks for all the replies. I am going to hold off for now since my pain really isn't that bad right now.
