I would appreciate any input on this as it has been years since i've been on lithium......If I were on 600-900mg. what might
I expect for side effects?? I probably won't start on it for a month, since we are having out of town company for 3 weeks and
doing the tourist stuff, so wouldn't want to start something new with new people around. Also, for those who take lithium and maclobemide, do you also take tegretol? I've been on that for years, (currently taking 1,000mg. Depakote makes me very sleepy so can't do that one. Maybe w/the lithium to stableize me more, I can lower the tegretol dose.

Lithium is a well tested and used drug, it does have some side effects such as dry mouth,to more serious like rashes. I currently take 600my gettting ready to up that another 600 and so far the worst has been the rash from it. This only happens in rare cases though, lithium is a generally safe drug and an excellent mood stabilizer.

At 500 mg the main S/E was needing to pee a lot and dry mouth. At 900 mg (dose upped 2 weeks ago) the S/E's are needing to pee a lot and acne. Am foggy headed, but I'm thinking that's more about depression than anything else. Have also noticed some very mild hair loss since being on it.

You probably know this, but make sure you keep your fluids up when on lithium...2 litres a day. Also, don't over-hydrate...can dilute the lithium's effectiveness.

Never been on tegretol.
