Hi All:

I have been on 10 mg of cipralex for about 1 year. I am taking it for GAD and moderate depression. It seemed to be working well for me. Recently I noticed my anxiety is starting to creep up. Just wondering if anyone experienced this? Can it stop working? Perhaps I need my dosage adjusted?

My second question is if my Doc increases my cipralex to 20mg, since I have been taking 10 mg for 1 year, will I experience the same side effects or more side effects as I did the first time? How long would these side effects last this time? How long til the new dose kicks in this time (will it 4 to 6 weeks like the first time)?

Appreciate your replies.

Thanks

Hi Breezin, welcome to df welcomeani.gif

You can experience side effects when upping your dose but they shouldn't be as bad as the intial ones. I found that there was an increase in drowsiness and headaches for a few days and sweaty hands and feet (nice!) but that was about it I think - although I may just have a selective memory!!
They went away much quicker too and again the effect should work a bit quicker.

Remember though that everyone is different and these are just my experiences. Hope you get it sorted out.

PRT xx

Thanks PRT! Is it usual for Cipralex/Lexapro to poop out like that after a year?

I'm going from 10mg to 20mg right now but I decided to cut it into 15 first. I had a little nausea and felt hyper the first few days but not as bad as when I started.

I've only been on it for about 5 weeks so I can't answer the other question. It seems like when you're already used to a medicine and you're just increasing it, it's not as bad as when you first start and your body is asking "what's THIS STUFF?" unsure.gif

Some people do find that medications just stop working for them. It can be a real pain. But also 10mg is a pretty small doseage and so moving up will probably help you better without needing to change meds altogether. xx

Hi:

I have been taking Cipralex (Lexapro) for about a year and I have been doing well with it. I noticed lately some of my anxiety/depression symptoms starting to return. Just wondering what others experience is. Can Cipralex poop out?

I originally posted something related to this in the Meds forum but didn't get many replies. Just hoping for a wider cross section of opinions.

Thanks

Hi breezin,

Unfortunately it not that 'unusual' to develop a tolerence for any med including SSRIs' Some peole get 15 years out of an AD and some a lot less like myself and perhaps yourself.
See you Doc about increasing your dose first, if this is a possibility, he will advice you either way. It may be a case of 'pooping out' or just an adjustment.

My Citalopram pooped out on me last year - went on Prozac and then back on another generic brand of Citalopram and now I am ok, more or less. So yes it can happen and sometimes a break away from the med gets it to work again.

So its a case trial and error. See your Doc.

Best Wishes

Jim Bow
