For those who have experienced the 'honeymoon' period with bupropion, how long did it last? I started two and a half weeks ago on XL (Global generic), 150 mg the first four days and then 300 mg for the past two weeks. It felt amazing, back to normal for the first time in years, for about the past week or so. Then yesterday the numb, apathetic feeling that I associate with my depression came back all of a sudden and it made pretty anxious that that's all I'll be getting out of it. Just wondering if anyone's had the honeymoon last for as long as the first two weeks (it would be encouraging to know, since that means hopefully the effect will be back in another couple of weeks...)

The other thing I haven't been able to find out about is whether dosage effectiveness is affected by body mass (as is the case for most medications). I'm a pretty big guy (6'6, 190 lbs), does that mean I'm more likely to need a higher dose (and is the increase in risk of seizure from a higher dose also lessened somewhat by my weight)? I'll be asking my pdoc about this, but it's another three weeks until I see him, so if anyone's got any good references on this, feel free to point me in their direction.

Thanks!

I had the honeymoon phase as you did for about the first 2 weeks or so but it was not constant I had probably 4-5 days off and on the first 2 weeks and then wham I was worse than ever. most people on the site say it can take up to 6-8 weeks to feel the full benefit. I will be at 5 weeks tomorrow and I have felt a small change in mood a couple of times in the last week but nothing substantial. I was on the 300mg SR for the first 4 weeks and I am now on the 300mg XL (teva bupropion). I am hoping to see a difference in the next week or so because I need to get back to work sick leave only goes so far and I have bills to pay :) but I am not ready for the stress right now.

But like I said your phase sounds just like the one I experienced.

It's not unusual to have mood swings starting a new pmed. It can take up to 8 weeks to receive full benefits. In my non-professional opinion pmeds are not based on body mass. I've only heard that seizures are more likely to happen when you go off WB suddenly. It didn't happen to me, but we all react and respond differently to meds.

You can always call your pdoc and ask about what you posted here.

Hi anonanon,

In my experience on the same dose of the XL version I only had the honeymoon effect for 2 1/2 days, so I think you having it for two weeks is a good thing. You may not get it back in a couple of weeks, and it may not come backas strong as initially, but usually have it at all is a sign it may work for you. Give it the full 8 weeks and see how you are doing then, hopefully things will even out for you.

Again I don't believe your body mass will change the effectiveness of your wellbutrin. Even with the 300 dose, the chance of seizure is quite low and again I don't think your body mass will effect it either way.

Good luck and let us know if you need more insight.
