I have been on and off anti-depressants for years. Tried Paxil and it made me gain weight and become jittery, lexapro worked great until my insurance refused to cover it, then i started cymbalta and gained 60 lbs and it barely worked. I recently started zoloft and gained some more weight so my dr. added wellbutrin sr to my daily meds. I take 150 mg of wellbutrin sr in the morning and 50 mg of zoloft before bed. So far, so good, however, i have not noticed any weight loss like my dr. told me to expect. I have been on the wellbutrin/zoloft together for 9 days now and am eating a lot less because all of my sugary cravings are gone. However, even though my weight has stayed the same, i have not lost an ounce. For those of you that ate less on wellbutrin, how long before you noticed weight loss? it's so tough having all of this extra weight!

Hi and Welcome to DF sarbear

The weight loss will take some time before you notice it. Unfortunately weight rarely comes off fast.
Doing a little exercise can help too.

I gained about 50 pounds while on Paxil for 6 months. I stopped taking Paxil and have been on 300mg of Wellbutrin for just over 2 months. My weight has NOT decreased even one pound even though I'm eating less and exercising everyday. At least, however, I'm still not gaining weight as I was on Paxil.

I am on the same combo only I take the WB in the morning and afternoon. I noticed weight loss after about 3 or 4 weeks, when the "honeymoon" kicked in, because I got huge surges of energy, and didn't want to stop to eat! I hope things work out for you. Give it some time. It can take months or even years to figure out the right combo and dosage for you. Hang in there.

Hi,

I'm hoping someone can offer advice. About four months ago my doctor prescribed wellbutrin SR 150 mg for my depression. They sent me generic bupropion. I felt great. I was doing really well on it. When I went to get my refill through my mail order insurance company, they sent me budeprion. When I looked at the pill, it looked completely different and the name was different. I was concerned but then just let it go as the bottle said it was generic for wellbutrin. I've been on the budeprion for a month now and I feel as though I'm not taking anything! I'm extremely moody, no sex drive, depressed, tired, and having suicidal thoughts. I called my insurance and they told me it was the same thing. I told them it can't be otherwise I wouldn't be feeling this way. So far, I've been made to feel crazy. My boyfirend thinks I'm going crazy too and he has noticed a huge difference in me. He says my moods are all over the place. Anyway, I did some research on the internet and it seems like a few people are having the same issue. So my question is, has anyone on here experienced this? Can anyone offer any knowledge on who makes generic bupropion? I know Watson is one. Any others? I want to stop taking Teva budeprion right away, however, I cannot afford the name brand wellbutrin. I was told $300 some dollars for a 3 month supply!

Thanks

Hi, mascarru!

I was also prescribed Wellbutrin SR 150 mg about 2 months ago. My insurance only pays for generic. I had the prescription filled at the same pharmacy I have used for two years (Walgreens). After I began taking the meds (not long enough to have them "kick in") I noticed on a drug ID site that bupropion is the generic for Wellbutrin SR. That led me to researching online as the generic I was given was budeprion.

I was amazed at how many anecdotal accounts I found of people saying almost exactly what you posted. Feeling great after being on bupropion, then next time their prescription was filled, they began getting depressive symptoms again and/or it felt like taking nothing. They then checked the bottle and saw it was budeprion by Teva. I also did some research on Teva and they don't seem to have a great reputation.

This alarmed me, so I began a search for a local pharmacy that carried the bupropion generic by Watson as that is what most of the comments recommended. I found it at CVS. Since I had only taken the budeprion by Teva a few days, I can't comment on feeling differently, but the way you're feeling was echoed by many comments. Google buproprion vs budeprion and you'll find a lot of comments. If you have a CVS in your town, I would try their first; if not, try other pharmacies. I heard of some people having their pharmacies specifically ordering the Watson generic, so that could be an option as well.

P.S. You're not goi

EDIT: I'm sorry for the double post (well at least the 1 1/2 post). My browser froze while I was trying to save and I don't think there is a way we can delete posts, so my entire post is below. :)

P.S. You're not going crazy...I'm convinced those two generics are not the same although many doctors and pharmacists insist that all generics are "exactly" the same as brand. When I checked with my grocery store pharmacist saying I was looking for the Watson WB generic and didn't want Teva, he said, "Most people don't want Teva for any prescription, not just pysch meds." I think it's horrible that first we have to deal with brand vs generic and then on top of *that* different generics are not created equally. veryangry.gif

I had the same thing. I had to switch med suppliers that my company chose and the pill was different. It was white with an A102 on it. Ever since I went to this it seems like I wasn't on anything at all. I know what you mean. I'm going to Doc and hoping to change meds around.
