Starting new meds is a real adjustment for your system and they take time to work, so you'll have to wait and see how you feel in two month, tops. It sounds like you have anxiety problems, and your doc will be the person to talk to about what he recommends. If you aren't sleeping or able to stay asleep at night, he can probably work on your meds to improve this. I never wanted to be on sleeping pills, either but I understand that the ones out there now are non-addictive and safer to use than what was offered in the past.
When you start to feel some better, maybe seeing a therapist will help you uncover what triggered this anxiety in the first place. Then, you might want to decide what to do about it. Life is hard at times. I know I went through the place where I work going bankrupt, and I lost all motivation to get back on my feet. Till then, I'm in a low paying job and hating it. I think the stress of going through this kind of thing has probably set both you and I off. I don't want to subject myself to that kind of stress, again, but out of financial need, I may very well have to.
