Hello all,

I had been taking fluoxetine for about 6 weeks and due to the levels of anxiety and insomnia I was having the doctor has changed me over to 30MG of Mirtazapine(zispin to some) per day, I've decided to take it in the runup to bedtime. Last night was my first dose(now I'm well aware im not going to go'ping' and find myself in a new world') I had strange zapping sensations in my forearms and very slightly in my legs when trying to sleep last night and have felt very strange all day, I've been quite disorientated, and a lthoguh my anxiety has reduced the familiar feeling of a constricted throat and inability to swallow remains.

has anyone else gone through this transition or withdrawn from fluoxetine?(prozac to some) if so any information on how that went would be appreciated as I'm rather cautious at the moment abotu how this is making me feel and hoping the feeling of weirdness will go away, I just can't ascertain whether its because I'm finishing prozac or starting mirtazapine or both!

see the problem? :P

HI Danathos,

Sorry noone has responded yet, sometimes posts get missed.
I remember reading a while ago about someone having a tight throat feeling on the start-up of an AD, but I can't remember which one it was. I would tend to think that side-effects which you haven't experienced before would more likely to be a result of starting up a new med than withdrawing from an old one, but that's purely guesswork. If you go into the Remeron forum you will find out more about the side effects of that drug.
If it's very uncomfortable and you feel your breathing is affected I would definitely contact your doctor as swelling like that can show an allergic reaction.

PRT xx

I'm sorry I am not much help as I have not switched between these two medications but I do think that feeling a constricted throat and difficulty swallowing is a problem. I would definitely ask your doc about that.

I do hear you on the "levels of anxiety" from taking Prozac though. I started it 3 weeks ago for what I would call mild anxiety and after taking it my anxiety was at a level that I've never known in my life! I subsequently quit the drug one week ago, but am still suffering from high anxiety and can't wait to just be myself again.

Good luck to you and I hope you feel better soon!

Hi,

I just wanted to mention my experience with prozac.
I am on it now and I feel great but the startup period
was horrible. I had severe anxiety and insomnia for
weeks. My pdoc gave me xanax to help me through
the startup phase which really helped. It took close to
two months before the side effects went away and
the therapeutic benefits happened but for me it was
worth it. I feel now like I have never had depression
before yet I have suffered with it for 20 years.

If you are having problems with swallowing or your
throat closing up that is more serious that insomnia
and anxiety though and should check with your doc.

wishing you the best,
starr
