Hi Everyone
just signed up for this great forum, im living in England
i have been diagnosed with Depression, have been on Fluoxetine (20mg per day)
i feel my mood has improved, but not much, i have constant sweating, still feel nervous and anxious etc
since taking this i dont sleep very well at all, and during the day im exhausted
i have been on them for about 4 and half months now, i went back to see my doctor and said i dont feel that much better
he has now told me to come off the Fluoxetine and start taking Mirtazapine, today is the day when im to start this new medication
been prescribed 15mg a day to be taken at night
my trouble is that i never drink in the week but at weekends i do like a couple of ice cold michelob ultra beers with my new girlfriend
i know you cant drink with Mirtazapine, so when i know im to drink on a friday or saturday, do i not take the medication?
i have been off the Fluoxetine for 9 days now, i have been crying all the time, felt more tired than when i was actually on the tablets, generally feeling very low and anxious...just been getting on with life, more like a ZOMBIE
im very concerned on starting this mirtzapine as everyone keeps on about the weight gain but the medication seems to be some of the best on the market?
i do not want to put on weight! this would knock me for 6
i thought if i did start taking it, i would ignore the hunger cravings and increase in appetite, but from what i have read today, it still makes you put on weight no matter what you eat? WHY ??
is there anything medication i should ask for and not take Mirtazapine?
im desperate for Advice
I'm not that experienced with Mirtazapine since I've only been on it for a little over 2 weeks now, but I figured I'd respond to your post and try my best to shed some light as no one else has yet. The first weekend on this med I had gone out and had a few drinks. But I didn't like the way it felt so I've quickly put in end to that. I'm not too sure that if what you're feeling now-a-days is w/drawl from the Fluoxetine nor how bad your depression is, but in either case, I definitley wouldn't recommend skipping doses on the account of drinking. Give the meds a shot and stay consistent with your dosing so that hopefully in a few weeks you can start feeling better... and if throwing down a couple of pints in the meantime doesn't interefere with that, then do your thing. I just personally wouldn't recommend it... I know in my case, the two don't mix. In regards to the increased appetite and sugar cravings, believe the hype! I'm not sure if this is what causes potential weight gain or if one's metabolism gets slowed down or whatever the case. I did gain a few pounds the first week cause I ate everything in sight, but have since started working out and the weight gain has stopped.
