Hi,
I've been reading a lot about bupropion, because I just started taking 150mg SR (Teva) 8 days ago. About 2 hours after my first dose I felt it hit. I got sort of a stoned feeling (never been stoned, but that's the best I can describe it). I later got a pressure headache behind my eyes and forehead. I've had both of those symptoms on and off. After 6 days, I was to add another dosing in the afternoon. Those symptoms were even worse. It's very hard to concentrate. I feel mentally dull. I'm not sure it's affecting my memory entirely, but I am having a hard time absorbing what I'm reading while studying.

There have been some positives mixed in. Every once in a while the fog lifts and I feel energized, confident, and social. I also have had some sporadic libido improvement. I started taking it due to "mild depression", as my doctor said (gen. practitioner). I'm seeing a pdoc for the first time ever in a week.

I know some of these symptoms have been reported before. For those that have felt this same "drugged" or "stoned" feeling, did it ever change? I don't know how long I can wait, because I'm afraid it's going to lower my performance in school!

Thanks!!!

welcomeani.gif to DF quasi,
I have never taken wellbutrin but from what i remember from other posts the startup is quite bad but once the side effects are gone it works quite well. I would suggest you keep a list of the side effects and take it to your p-doc ans you and him can make an informed decission weather to keep with it or change it.

Hopefully someone with more experiance on it it will come by.

Hey there, Quasi
I'm taking bupropion xl although I think that I may be alot older than you. You are doing exactly the correct thing in nipping this depression in the bud. Excellent response. It sounds that, considering the flashes of wellness you are experiencing, the drug is doing its thing quite well. I have read that it takes about 4 to 6 wks to kick in. YMMV.
For me there is a distracting feeling the main part of the day and a speedy feeling to go with it. I'm at day 17 and not getting your flashes of normalcy but I have every cinfidence that they will come. Hang on just a bit longer, my friend, it sounds as if you have the depression on its heels.
Goodluck

Thanks for the replies. I appreciate the encouragement. smile.gif

I decided I couldn't risk having the side effects of the 2x daily dosing affect my performance in school so I dropped back down to 1x after 3 days at 2x. Many of the side effects have subsided. Even the positive effects are pretty much gone though. However, I still feel mentally slower. I'd like to stick it out to see if that fades. And maybe it's just in my head. I've felt duller and duller every year for the last 10! My ability to concentrate has also faded. I don't know whether I should attribute this to a long bout of "mild depression" or what, but I feel older than I should for someone in their late 20s. I see the pdoc in a couple days so I'll see what he says.

The pdoc was concerned about the seizure risk of Bupropion for me, because I had an eating disorder many years ago. She switched me to Zoloft (Sertraline) 3 weeks ago.
