Hi. I've been on Effexor for 5 years 150mg. Has worked great for depression. Only side effect was feeling tired all the time. Started abilify 5mg with Effexor about 10 months ago and felt like it gave me the energy I needed and worked great. For the past 6 weeks I have been in a downward spiral and am wondering if the Effexor has stopped working? Nothing has changed in my life to make the depression appear again so can't figure out what happened to my happy self...secondly, I can't get into my doctor until the 18th of November and am seriously contemplating adding 75 mg of Effexor (have laying around) to my regular dose to try and start feeling better again...hate to self medicate, but am sick of feeling this way.

Hi texasgirl888, It does sound like the Effexor has stopped working effectively for you. I understand that your appointment isn't 10-11 days and you want some relief now. This is a peer to peer forum and we can't really recommend that you change medications without your doctors okay. Can you call back and suggest your change and tell the secretary to ask the dr. and call you back. Or you could ask your pharmacist what they think.
If you end up not increasing it, keep close watch on your spiralling and get yourself to an emergency room when you need to and you may get some help there.
