I take 20 and it isn't helping yet. I just switched from celexa 2 weeks ago and I wonder if going up to 40 will help? What is the "average" dosage of prozac for the "average" person.

And after a week and a half I started feeling sick to my stomach every day about a week and a half after I started it and I dont' know if it is related or not. Is it normal to feel sick after that long?

We are all different and our bodies work different but I know it helped me to read personal posts.
I think the average dose is 20mg. I take 20mg under extreme stress (being hit by a tornado)! I now take 10mg and am using and learning new coping skills all the time. It always takes it at least 8 weeks to start working for me. It takes about 12 to 16 weeks to feel the full effects. It always makes me nauseous when I start it. That seems to lessen at about 4 to 6 weeks. This is all worth it to me because in the end it has been the best med for me. We are all different and this is just my reaction to Prozac. Hope this helps some. I am sure you will hear more from others. Hope it works for you if not there are others. smile.gif hope

Hi,

I take 40mg of Brand Prozac. 20mg was not fully effective I switched from italopram after it 'pooped'out.

There are about 6 generic brands of Fluoxetine (Prozac) I have come across ans 2 had a really bad effect on me. So I moved to Brand Prozac

I'm jumping in on the brand aspect here. I used Prozac years back and was wonderful, tried brand a year ago and was horrible! My next doc told me stay away from the brand, i agree. It does take time and it does cause nausea and things, i get night sweats which is why i stopped but it sure did help my moods!

The first AD I took was Prozac at 10mg, gradually upped to 20mg which I think is a very common dosage. I was a bit light headed off and on for a few days at the beginning but it soon wore off. Like the others here have said, it takes a little while to start working. I felt a bit better at about 4 weeks and even more so by 8 weeks. Unfortunately for me it just did not do enough and I switched to a different drug, but for what it did do it was good and the side effects were minimal.

I am currently taking 25 mg. However I have been bothered by more anxiety and depression lately (have been taking Prozac for almost two years now) so my doctor is considering switching to another SSRI or increasing the dosage again. I was hoping to decrease soon but this is all a journey I suppose!

For a time, I was taking 60 mg daily. Unfortunately, I had to lower my dosage because of a variety of side effects. I'm currently on 40 mg daily, but I'm planning to lower my dose to 20 mg soon because of sexual side effects. Prozac has been quite effective for me, and I'm concerned that 20 mg will not be enough. Bad situation, I guess. Wellbutrin and Yohimbine for the sexual side effects did nothing.
