I have been having trouble getting enough air into my lungs over the last 2 weeks or so.

Therapist said - maybe it's allergies.

Pdoc said - it's not side effects of meds.

Mom said - go see your regular dr.

I did today and he said it was anxiety - and/or the beginning of what could be a panic attack.

Honestly, this was interesting to me. I have not have this problem before. But, I do have many stressors going on simultaneously right now. He told me to practice my "distress tolerance" when I feel like I am having trouble getting enough air.

So, on I go. Music is one of my favorites for this. Anxious and swimming through the mud with James Taylor playing in the background... Ha.

Kat, You might want to start practicing deep (tummy) breathing, slowling inhaling and slowly exhaling. Once you are able to do that well, count during each and hold the breath between the inhalation and exhalation. Anxiety causes us to hyperventalate, thus making in difficult to breathe. Deep breaths are the bodies "natural" calmer.

Yeah, I would recommend meditation/yoga, as correct breathing and different kinds of breathing is central. One bit of advice I got from my therapist is that one should view a diagnose like this as at least you know what the problem is, it seems less scary when we know what`s wrong. But at the same time, you might feel even more worried because of suddenly there`s a big name on the problem. Don`t be though, because now you know that it can be treated and it`s not "dangerous". You are in no danger. Music is good, yeah happy.gif

I have trouble breathing a lot, but it seems to only happen when I'm trying to get to sleep. Most of my anxiety happens at night and early hours of the morning. I'm having this trouble tonight which is why I am still up (it's about 2am here)
Feels like something is sitting on my chest and choking me, or that there is no oxygen in the room :/
This seems to happen to me more nights than not, especially if I am by myself.
