I have read and heard so many different things.

I have heard that 7.5mg will make you the most tired or sedated but is only effective for a sleep aid and not anxiety...true?

If you have other side effects on 15mg, does upping to 30mg decrease the side effects or just the side effect of dowsiness?

My doc said it is a funny drug and that sometimes lowering the dose will increase your side effects...?

Thanks

I've never really had any side effects on remeron, in the past nearly 3 years, so I can't really comment.

What's your experience of it?

Trust your doc with this one. Side effects can vary greatly depending on a person, their physiological and psychological condition, mood day, season - whatever you can put here. There is no way telling how it would effect you, basically its just test and fail thing most of the times.

We really need lambvet here now. He is SO knowledgable about drugs and especially Remeron. I only ever took up to 15mg, so can't speak from too much experience, but at 7.5mg it was VERY sedating, at 15mg slightly less so. I slept like a log on 15mg (in combo with Efexor) and it worked for my depression too. I'm told that once you go up to 45-60mg it becomes much less sedating. I put on a lot of weight from carb cravings, but I'm told that also gets less with an increased dose. I can't tell you anything about its effects on anxiety, sorry.

Good drug, though.

ive been on remeron for almost a month and my anxiety is completly gone. lambvet inspired me to try this drug and I am truly grateful. I do here the SE's diminish as you increase the dosage. take it before bed instead of in the morning, for less sedation during the day, thats what i do.

Hi .WHen i first tried remeron years ago I gave up on because of the sedation, sleepyness it gave me. This time around I sticked with it hoping for the side to diminish and it have. From 7.5 mg to 15 mg and now on 30mg. I do take it at night since it still gives me a mild initial sedation but I don't mind it since I can have a great sleep which I wasn't able to have for the longest. I'm still on zolft which I might drop and maybe increase mirtazapine to 45 mg. I love the fact that this med don't have sexual sidesi. I still have sexual sides but that because of zoloft. But as I decrease zoloft to 50mg it has diminish so I imagine without zoloft i might not have any. Good luck

I would expect that if you increase the dose of most ADs you are going to get side effects that would seem a logical explaination. I have only been on 2 SSRI Meds and got side effects on increasing. It all settled down after a few weeks though.

Always see or talk to your doctor about your concerns.

interesting, so it is less sedating at higher levels? I was worried taking 15mg instead of 7.5 I would become more dependent on it as greater dosage...

7.5 mg will make you more tired because at lower dosages its alpha blockage activity is less than its antihistamine and serotonin antagonist properties. This means that even at lower dosages, its effective for sleep, appetite, and anxiety---but not mood.

upping the dose relieves some of the sedation, but other side effects may get worse, such as RLS. So it depends.

All this is due to the fact that mirtazapine has strong antihistamine properties, but is a weak alpha blocker. So taking less will have an imbalanced effect, with its stronger effects becoming prominent. So antihistamine and 5ht antagonism effects at low dosages, and additional noradrenergic effects at higher ones.
